walking 20:00 [1] 1.0 km (20:00 / km)

ow. i fell down. it hurt as much as i imagined it would, all my joints went completely apesh*t, i just laid there and screamed my lil non-orienteer head off for quite awhile; luckily g's rxn was not running off, but to skitter over, lick face in worry, then crawl up and sit on my stomach where she doesnt quite fit frankly. very cute. lotsa roadrash, r pinkie is messed up in a variety of ways, but i have it disinfected and sorta splinted w antibiotic in there, elevated, maybe some ice. look at again later, maybe tetanus? not sure... time for tea, tylenol, take-out for dinner... and now call husband...uh oh :)

Note

BENCHMARK - eight wks enbrel - no major unambiguous improvements detectable. I'd be willing to say small but significant improvements do exist mostly in peripheral joints - can floss, can put on socks, take off sweaters, kneel judiciously, also recently noticed I can use the smaller leash which I really previously Could Not (or, leash broken in?). DR said knees were less swollen/inflamed this time (hmmm, she felt them thru jeans this time, so not sure about that) I'd say hips, knees, shoulders all continue to give basically the usual barrage of twinges & aches. Shoulders might be slightly improved in terms of sleeping positions. Sleep may be slightly less broken. I dont yet see any change in km/week - that datum is bouncey but not yet trending up. It may trend up over next 4 weeks as I go thru last pkg enbrel? R foot SEEMS over last 4-5 days to be improving, ie both feet REALLY hurt but in a normal arthritis way ie it walks out rather than increasing w exercise. Specifically when I get up L foot (sic) is hurting more. Putting off x-ray for another 2-3 weeks - unnecessary? Track if R foot improvement could reinforce/be result of slow/feeble enbrel effect?
cilantro & pumpkin-seed-based pesto, another round of the bocconcini-pearl caprese salad since it was a hit, broccoli stirfry, orange salad...

Yellow Dog Yoga 35:00 [1]

did basic usual, tried bits from SIL's book mostly more breath co-ordination & body-kindness (felt very yogic :) & D's evening stretch series. Sunshine !! dug thru veg bin on patio & found yams are going, so will try first expt - grate, toss w sesame oil, chili, salt, cumin, & roast/broil briefly in thin layer. Am visualizing teeny savory mini-fries...

walking 34:00 [1] 1.7 km (20:00 / km)

w/ Keith & Oscar around Ledgestone & up along the creek, took a peek at the dog-park & got the scoop from the remarkably chatty workmen spreading soil, can't quite make out if he was joking about trying to seed it w grass, or was he saying bark-mulch? Salmonberries blooming, did spot-the-hemlock all the way up...

Note

goodness. Ken appears to have been up to something.

slept 5 hr in a row last night WOW, it was brilliant! Going to try to reproduce "Haida Cakes" to day - salmon, corn, wild rice, scallions, is what it looked like (too cheap to buy one)...fridge-cleansing stirfry...actually just gai lan, & a take on a caprese salad - bought some cheap bocconcini, yow! they are TINY - says "pearls" on pkg & they mean it. Balsamic reduction & cherry tomatoes, tailend of hawaiian basil...

walking 56:00 [1] 2.8 km (20:00 / km)

up to Highgate to P/U pkg - my sis-in-law sent me "Yoga for Joints & Glands" how fun is that!? Then P/U meds & marrow-bones (for me & pup respectively) at Station Square, home & out in rather chilly mist-rain to visit the park - saw a flicker, a pink house-finch & some little (downy or hairy) woodpecker within 15 sec, talk about springtime AOWN. G found half a rotted mouse, & half a rotted rat. gah. I swear she'd make a good cadaver dog, like her half-bro, speaking of which we have started Search & Rescue Training, in our livingroom - she rescues biscuits & snax from under assorted cushions & toys, getting fairly good at it, but the whole eating-the-victim thang after rescuing him will need to be editted a bit if she goes professional.
This is rather alot - am icing again to try to prevent badness.

Tuesday Feb 26, 2008 #

Note

sun went away, brazilian black bean soup on tap along w/ the Goodtime Girl's Banana Split Bread Pudding, yeeehaaaa! W tailend of antipasto mix & whole wheat tortilla crisps, S/B fun.
Started working on second half of W&P, had to stop for a week to read a frolicky space opera by Bujold to steel myself for 100's of pages of the war of 1812 which I predict is gonna be gruesome & way more military strategy than I have ever been exposed to before...

Yellow Dog Yoga 5:00 [1]

hot-tub stretching & waving arms & legs about before going into pool.

swimming 13:00 [1]

pool was warm !! lusciously warm ! I wrote a note to the strata council immediately afterwards, begging them NOT to turn it down for the lap-swimmers! (sorry, poor, boiling-hot lap-swimmers...) Was super slow & careful cuz I havent swum in so long, & got out way before I felt I wanted to stop. L hip & R Shoulder cranky, R foot did not like the wigglyness of being free in the water at all. But I gave it some nice jets in the hot-tub to think about. Only other person was a sturdy chinese lady, & we shared the pool nicely, one big lane each to fool around in. Sheer luxury.

walking 36:00 [1] 1.8 km (20:00 / km)

pearly grey sky, kinda warm (one coat only) strolled over to Taylor, looked at bikepark in detail, watched them putting up the baseball thingy (again), met G's old gentleman black spaniel friend, plus played w Rocky for 5 minutes or so. Lotsa carrying sticks today for some reason. Bread raised all the way by the time we are back - stayed out longer than i was planning at first....

Monday Feb 25, 2008 #

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

last day of sun or so they say - went down to Taylor Park & around, then sat in the sun, played w Wilbur & Whistler...wildly euphoric all day for no particular reason - seasonal affect in reverse? Gardening - baths for stephanotis & coffee (I think its gonna flower!), tidied two planters on the patio, took lotsa cuttings for spring plantings, considering bonsai-ing the rosemary, looked up names for two unknowns on internet - plectranthus & streptocarpus.
Havent iced feet for a few days to minimize rebound - actually seem to be doing better!? altho I have been limping strategically (can feel gait is messed so no doubt I'll pay some kinda price for that in the longterm, but I'm pretty experienced in knowing when & how to correct back. we'll see)
resolving to be more stringent on thai curries - last two attempts have been sloppy & frankly disappointing, no more of that!

Sunday Feb 24, 2008 #

Note

shiba meet today in New West. Sunny! Daffodils came out on patio yesterday.
calculated 190 (short brown) rice grains in a tsp, thus 1000 grains = 5 tsp, 1 cup = 9000 grains...

walking 26:00 [1] 1.3 km (20:00 / km)

great meander around Queen's Park, feet not too bad !! sunshine, amazing array of shiba inu - white, red, yellow, & black, fat, slender, tall, tiny, fuzzy (G-dog), sleek...afterwards we went w exhausted dog asleep in back of Jeep to eat dim sum in New West DT - yum, those green tea/black sesame balls are so good, & the delicate fresh egg-tarts are the best I've ever had. Had to eat the lotus rice a bit selectively due to lent & delicious pork & nasty chinese sausage bits - gave those to D. Now dog & boy are napping bigtime.

walking 8:00 [1] 0.4 km (20:00 / km)

evening walk as well. Met FOUR big dogs, the blinking red LED labs, & a pair of ghostly weimeraners. G loved it. Plus small white mop NIcky with pretty brown eyes.

Saturday Feb 23, 2008 #

Note

runnin around today - gonna see about buying a fracture-shoe to calm my R foot, free latte at Market Crossing...
retro hors d-oeuvre plate, tuna-less antipasto & two kinds of toasted tortilla chips, pink blackberry bubbly in tall foolish glasses, spinach ravioli (w spinach-walnut-mushroom filling) dressed w basil chiffonade & minced garlic just sweated in some insane olive oil out of a GOLD bottle from the Island, then a simple salad w asian-style dressing, tahini, soy, ginger garlic sherry... then the plum platz with nectarines & plums... and photos of Jordan & powder skiing, quite a mish mash!

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

trotting around Market Crossing - COB Bread is open, yum yum! got my free latte, got free oranges at Kin's, plus asparagus etc.
Dinner went well, guests were charmed by foolish glasses, ravioli making, great stories about their trip, climbing Mt Sinai, camping w bedouins, yowza... then G disintegrated their favorite poster of Petra which they'd brought to show us & which was lying on the rug - she just quietly started tearing it apart next to the table - I heard her first, but one good chunk was toast - we are buying them a book of photos by the same lady online as a gift. argghhh, our Innocent Yellow Destroyer!

Friday Feb 22, 2008 #

walking 48:00 [1] 2.4 km (20:00 / km)

corner grocery - flowers, nam pla, curry paste, & a froo-froo pink fizzy drink (Cuz I love pink bubblies ever since my bro's wedding) for tomorrow's dinner...
G-walk w/ Keith (sans Oscar & his amorous attentions, thank goodness) in the (EXTRA! BONUS!) sun to the "other" park. Another gorgeous day, a fair bit of juicy gossip, G rolled in something particularly gross, just basically another great day all around.
decided to quick-roast the salmon filets in sesame oil, curry, & mesquite crunchies, make some curried brown rice pilaf w almonds, raisins, apricots, onion, celery, & green beans (six treasures), and then get together a fruit salad & a bit of caulifower-zucchini action for fiber...

Thursday Feb 21, 2008 #

Note

granville island for basil, parmesan, olive oil, & olives for party. And to photograph Ghostrider, drop off D's skipper resume, & sign him up for a refresher. And carouse w friends in the sun & drink silly expensive lattes at the Blue Parrot... a plethora of, um, shindigs & jollifications...

walking 28:00 [1] 1.4 km (20:00 / km)

a bit at the Island, then sunshiney walk W G down to parkway & around the school - read & had lil dog-snack picnic after meeting Lady, met Cobie on way back. Clouds coming back tomorrow they say.

walking 10:00 [1] 0.5 km (20:00 / km)

did the evening utility walk w/ G - earlier she got her incision inspected (good to bounce & run!) & scored a bunch of vaccinations which annoyed her. But then she got the tail end of the Hugest Milkbone Ever (lasted 3 days) so then she cheered right up.

Wednesday Feb 20, 2008 #

Note

lost about 3 hr sleep last night (?!) but passed some time by planning cool adventure for younger god-child - 2 summers ago elder G.C. did first nations canoeing & legends followed by two days camping deep in traditional territory & making a drum out of sloppy heap of elkskin rawhide, the little gaming-nerd took off his shoes & went barefoot for two days! We slept on the GROUND & I did not run screaming for a Starbucks latte. So, for younger one, maybe a day of sailing in August followed by gentle 4-wheeling it up the BCHydro service road to Jones Lake for some wilderness canoeing. It would be Awesome!
While hoping for Finnish night-O, plotting out prep for small dinner party this weekend - antipasto, ravioli-making (cuz its fun), a big asian-styled salad, & a mennonite plumplatz (w/ added nectarines).

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

unusual reverse loop around Cortina to the park & then home via the daycares - detoured into industrial area to look at new pedestrian overpass - yucky neighborhhod but highlighted by old scottish security guard popping out with The Biggest Milkbone Ever for G-dog. wow! It was as big as her head, musta been one for a St. Bernard or a mastiff or sumthin...

walking 14:00 [1] 0.7 km (20:00 / km)

evening walk to look at eclipse. cool. (it was de-eclipsing by the time we saw it here on the west coast, but it was doing fast so you could see it over the course of the walk)

Note

slowly processing DR's off-the-cuff comment re stress fracture. OK, so what is it? Seems like the area is meta-tarsal 2 or 3... I'm not waiting 7 weeks (Cdn medical is "free", but SLOW) to find out about x-ray if there is some charming product out there which I could wear in the meantime (without negatively affecting body if NOT a fracture) to reduce pain & start a recovery process. That would be nice. Fracture/post-op shoe sounds interesting, & looks mighty stylish...

Yellow Dog Yoga 10:00 [1]

gah! everything, e-v-e-r-y-thing hurt, so I was super gentle & just did a few things & only one or two reps, just to do the movement once & usually very modified. (weirdly I noticed the O-people on the weekend stretching & stuff to warm up or whatever, I'm actually more flexible in certain movements, go figure...) Then I finished w/ warrior on both sides, just as a wee defiance. Gotta keep yer lines drawn.

Anne's coming over for the dog-walk in the sun, should be nice.

walking 34:00 [1] 1.7 km (20:00 / km)

over to the other park w/ Anne & Gypsy. Most notable event: Gypsy & Kelli doing performance art w/ their leashes around an unsuspecting Anne outside the corner grocery while I scooted in to pick up some tomatoes.
Vegan chili & taco fixin's for dinner tonight, yum!

Monday Feb 18, 2008 #

walking 22:00 [1] 1.1 km (20:00 / km)

over to the park & back - spent 2 hr out in sun (continuing light sunburn from yesterday), met Remie the schnoodle, Lady the mop, & Murray the park dude - must be so satisfying to have made a park so wondrous right from its hideous beginnings as a (thin) dirt lid on a garbage dump - now it has... no less than five play areas for kids - swings, sandbox, climby thing, etc; then for teenagers basketball, soccer/baseball field (almost finished), terrain-bike area (that is used!), & an enclosed street hockey rink; various useable sculptures (adirondack chairs & a huge baronial inlaid table), three picnic areas, country-lane stroll, sunbowl/airplane-watching lawn, drinking fountain & washroom, & a state-of-the-art almost finished dog play area, fenced, small-dog & big dog areas as well as agility tubes & jumps, etc; & for older folk, lotsa benches. Nowadays Murray walks around monitoring the gases from the dump to make sure it doesnt get too crazy-toxic above-ground...I guess it is the best thing to do w/ a dump if you hafta use the real estate, this way no-one gets seriously gassed year-in-year-out the way they would if they zoned it for residences...

Sunday Feb 17, 2008 #

walking 22:00 [1] 1.1 km (20:00 / km)

I kinda made that up - wandering at Myrtle Park during the final sprints day - gorgeously sunny, G however was suffering "effects" of yummy snax snuck to her last night by her grampa, so we spent some time in the bushes. Looked like the event was a lotta fun. Met some freaky french (?) bulldogs that look like Yoda. Went for great greek lunch in Deep Cove in a hole in the wall.
Played doctor in the evening - took Gypsy's last two stitches out as they were just irritating the skin. yay!

Saturday Feb 16, 2008 #

Note

D just left to help pick up controls at some of the Van Sprints events. G & I are chillin' (R foot literally) - looking forward to rest of day, walk & tea w/ Su-Jane & Shelly at two, then over to Alfie's for dinner & NZ photos. G plans to attempt a massive potato overdose w assistance of her Shameless Enabler & Potato Sneaker, Alfred.

walking 42:00 [1] 2.1 km (20:00 / km)

really slow gentle but long walk w/ Shelly & Su-Jane - it was so fun ! It's spring, and sunny, and we were so dashing w/ our cute matching dogs! Everyone we met was so pleased, "oh, Gypsy and her mom! Hi Shelly! Hi Gypsy!" Then we had tea and chocolate, & talked about summer. I iced my feet. D had fun at the sprints, I think he saw kupackman. tomorrow me & Gyp are gonna go. Now off we go to dad-in-law's!

Friday Feb 15, 2008 #

Note

Ok, got info off my log for rheumatologist - in summary, within 2-3 weeks I could see three small, lasting, & possibly significant changes - socks on, sweaters off, & better sleep. Later, I noticed that I can kneel. Not much change on overall activity, but I always push that as far as I can, & I feel the foot is the controlling factor on that. No infections, 6 weeks in, 2 injections to go on the initial run. Gonna consult on hurty foot since late October.
Last night after her evening walk G-dog came back into the apt & brought me a pink valentine floaty balloon attached to her collar. Insanely cute. (she actually found it mildly annoying, but I'm gonna ignore that aspect. She finds many things mildly annoying compared to her idea of how Things Ought To Go.)

Yellow Dog Yoga 28:00 [1]

absurdly pleased that one can stretch hips open while at the Very Same Time, one can be working on elbow range of motion AND fingertip exercises. I do love multi-tasking...

walking 50:00 [1] 2.5 km (20:00 / km)

short dogwalk over to Cortina & back, then horsing about getting over to VGH & back.
Dr. says go for another 6 weeks, get foot X-rayed. Otay.
Mama's salmon loaf, green peas & brown rice, & a wee artisanal brie from the island w some pita chips. Followed by a Sublime Cookie or two. Maybe a kiwi if I have time.

Thursday Feb 14, 2008 #

walking 34:00 [1] 1.7 km (20:00 / km)

off to dentist in the morning, then a walk in the early afternoon w/ G down to the head of the Stairmaster then cut across to woods & up to Villa Jardin. REALLY frozen up, took 4 hr to get it out, now real sensitive, oh well, drink some tea...G has one stitch popped out but it is OK. Icing my foot, yeah.
smoked salmon cream sauce & seashell pasta (hahaha) & these Awesome Cookies whose recipe I got from a lady whose parents gave her to her husband in return for a whole barbequed pig (Go Steve! - he also had to bribe her girlfriends, all part of the deal...) takes mixing, freezing, slicing, & baking on parchment paper (never did that before, I'm freaking a bit on that - won't it go on fire?!) 4 bowls (wtf...), 1/4 c. flour, 3/4 lb chocolate manipulated in various painstaking ways, & a few trifles like pecans & mini-marshmallows, a pair of eggs, some butter, & a bunch of sugar. A recipe that is definitely not shy about what it's all about....D said he liked chocolate right?
The kitchen is now officially a mess just from that one recipe, & I probably should take a shower to wash off the chocolate...this is NOT O-food.

Wednesday Feb 13, 2008 #

Note
weight:61.8kg

got a bit down-hearted last night so have decided to get super-aggressive on my foot inflammation - 20" on ice 20" off, for a hour or so as many times a day as I can stand, Really Small Walks (easy in sun as G is happy to just sit & stare, & its warm enuf for me to assist w that without chilling), more frequent elevation. A bit twitchy about rebound - if it doesnt work, ie inflammation continues, then when I stop the hi levels of treatment it will probably worsen. ick. Gonna ask the Dr on Fri to X-ray in prep to talking about maybe fusing a joint or two in there, dunno if she'll go for it, cuz I have the impression it's a rather archaic solution...also gonna work on controlling down my weight just a titch. Every bit helps, & the next two weeks are it for the enbrel trial. also gotta pull info off my log for Dr appt on Fr.
Am enjoying sun, cafe au lait, & finnish electronic tracking event!

walking 18:00 [1] 0.9 km (20:00 / km)

teeny very slow walk up & down the local street, sat by the gate for a while, & in the lobby for a while, just for a change of scenery to watch the passersby. Read some more W&P - almost halfway done.
Bengali-style fish - tomato & onion-based sauce w/ ginger, chilis, garlic, & turmeric. Big heap o' vegies. Wondering what to make for Valentines Day.

Tuesday Feb 12, 2008 #

Note

woke up around 6am after hours of dreams of traveling, had ideas for two new ravioli - one simple & derivative (but lovely) involving spinach & feta, & then a grated squash briefly roasted w/ sesame oil & curry flavors then mixed w parmesan, hopefully keeping some of its gratedness...this might be based on the sweet potatoes at Inn at Langley. icing my paws as we speak.

walking 28:00 [1] 1.4 km (20:00 / km)

went out w G-dog for an hour in the mild sunshine, met Buddy the bulldog, went the length of the parkway, sat by the gate to be admired, & hustled in when the rain started again.

Yellow Dog Yoga 23:00 [1]

did a bit of YDY, w YD sniffing my face every once in a while. Left out some of the standing stuff as L knee was whining about something.
Now, homemade vietnamese noodles & tofu, w tea & Shadowlands on the iBook while I cut up broccoli & other yummy things...

Monday Feb 11, 2008 #

Note

finished the Audubon forest discussion. Gonna work on O-res.'s as noted. Still faithfully working on icing/elevating R foot. G-dog itchy & going after stitches, arggghhh, but I am a match for her. I hope...

walking 46:00 [1] 2.3 km (20:00 / km)

over to the creek w G in bizarre rain, got drenched, met Wilbur. Then train stn, downtown for transfusion & some bloodtests. Feet & ankles quite painful this evening even with so much icing & elevation. (OK, there was some extra meterage too...) Oh well, I guess I do have arthritis, just keep plowin' along. Tomorrow is another day...

Sunday Feb 10, 2008 #

Yellow Dog Yoga 32:00 [1]

did every movement I could think of ending w (modified) warrior, just to get as many joints and muscles tested, stretched, & moved around. Felt good. Changed activity name - it's all a mush of stretch, yoga, remedial strength, body awareness, meditation, & range of motion, & its all good for me. (was annoyed at sheer impossibility of Blue Dog Yoga, so this is a reminder to me that its all a continuum...)

walking 36:00 [1] 1.8 km (20:00 / km)

trip to corner grocery for veggies, sky cleared out so zipped out w G-dog for a gentle walk in the woods, met Tif & Dallice & a brace of beagles on the way home. D went out for a run! G got a marrow bone which may induce social havoc (doggy hungerstrikes for example) but for right now she's enjoying it & is certainly not trying to chew out her stitches. She may shake her teeth loose tho.
D is getting the O-schedule narrowed down - shall make Res for Kamloops Sage Stomp in May, & Cle Elum/Ellensburg Frenzy for August...

Saturday Feb 9, 2008 #

walking 14:00 [1] 0.7 km (20:00 / km)

afternoon walk - G does everything as usual but all a bit damped down - a few sniffs, some distance dog-watching, a dig at a mole hill, lil walk-walk, alotta sitting - I am hoping w enbrel at dose 6 & my appt next week, maybe I can use this quiet time to also break the inflammation cycle in my feet - they don't hurt today! Let's keep it that way - elevate!
Also, scallop/parched corn w lemon & dill ravioli expt (OK AND butter) - D is the Exptal Rat as usual, so brave!

Friday Feb 8, 2008 #

walking 24:00 [1] 1.2 km (20:00 / km)

after dropping G off at the vet's (really touched me to see her happy little powderpuff tail gaily wagging as she trotted trustingly into the back of the office w the vet assistant) we had a quick breakfast & then D left me at the station to go pick up some marrowbones to distract G-dog over the next few days. I hope she will be fine. I feel a bit jittery.

Note

G-dog got out of surgery sometime before 12:45 & seems fine thus far. We get to P/U 2:30-ish...
7:30PM - G's home & groaning ("vocalizing" - apparently a common r(x) to post-anesthesia grogginess) - got home pretty limp around 3:15. Pretty soon we'll take her out for a pee attempt & then try a snack & a fragment of a T-3 before bed. Whew!
Elvis dinner - vegan baked beans, three-times baked sweet potatoes, southern-style greens, waldorf salad, & some tres-english cheese to go w/ some homemade crackers. Ya gotta do sumtihn while yer dog is groanin'...

walking 8:00 [1] 0.4 km (20:00 / km)

evening toddle w/ G - pretty unenergetic, but we got the "job" done...

Thursday Feb 7, 2008 #

Note
slept:8.5

slept well again. icing & elevating, braced L wrist. Getting antsy re G-operation tomorrow, tending to gerbil about - carmelizing apples for apple cobbler tonight, started white-trash yams for tomorrow. Thai tofu tonight to celebrate New Year. Polished kitchen, deployed plant baths, cleaned up the coffee table, vacuuming, rearranged patio for the bulbs to show off. going to stop and rest joints a bit before the G-walk. stop stop stop !

walking 28:00 [1] 1.4 km (20:00 / km)

over to the park to bask in sunshine (albeit in lotsa fleece) & watch planes on approach. No dogs.
Considering playing freerice every day (it is mentioned on UN food program website so seems to be for real) and joining kiva to celebrate D's promotion/raise. Share the joy!

Note

unlike some dogs when confronted w a "post-operation" collar, Gypsy runs TO me when I show it to her & actually drools (I can hear her slurping her spit) while I put the collar on her. Boy, does that dog like duck-bits.

walking 14:00 [1] 0.7 km (20:00 / km)

evening walk as well

Wednesday Feb 6, 2008 #

walking 28:00 [1] 1.4 km (20:00 / km)

out in a light sleety rain, met Cassie The Toughest Yorkie Ever, Bilbo the Amorous Pitbull, & Nicky the Fat White Mop. Down the top bit of stairmaster, thru woods & back (bikepath still wet slick ice) & then over to Green construction & home in a hail-like snow that turned to a heavy fluffy snowfall before tea even got made. Feet generally much better today, still being pretty aggressive on icing & elevation. Crawled on floor on hands & knees - haven't done that in years. (Is this real? or am I just imagining not being able to do knees?! I'm sure I'm not)

Note
slept:8.0

sleeping really well the last two nights.
started on '08 gardening, fertilized everything, cut back the tamarind, put it out in the hall for a few weeks' rest along w amaryllis & one plumeria (which may have bit it). tidied alot of foliage & dead flowers, checked the bulbs on the patio which are coming up, considering koas & remaining plumeria. Maybe I need some rooting hormone & take cuttings...
last meat tonight, chili casserole topped w/ cornmeal dumplings, side of broccoli & green beans, sliced mango, orange-juice sailboat-popsicles...

Tuesday Feb 5, 2008 #

Note
slept:7.5 weight:62.2kg

slushing like crazy out there...
finished Muir, about one third thru W&P, good stuff. Roasted chicken legs for D tonight, garlic rosemary sage under the skin. Gonna try this idea for stuffing-influenced savory bread pudding-ish thing (tried the banana split bread pudding from Goodtime Girls book & it was insanely scrumptious so I am all over bread pudding inventions right now. Plus I got alotta bread cubes.) Gotta ice & elevate this morning. Today G-dog is gonna wear her Stylish Inflato-Collar in prep for her "operation" on Friday - she gets duck-bits when she wears it so she is quite pleased w/ it.
Incubating hi-tech-O, I can tell something is on its way. Quite apart from my old ideas of Dog-O - historically accurate AMERICAN version w/ stripey uniforms & baying bloodhounds erupting from certain points on the map, to lend complexity & urgency to the outing - and Texas-O, another American sport involving all-white uniforms, paint-ball technology for everyone on all the courses, terrain-specific snipers (to complicate your route-choices - "dang, I'd like to cut across this meadow, but it's a "Hilltop-Sniper Map", so it's pretty likely there's a sniper up there"), & a moderately complex penalty system for the number & color of splatters you collect. Am I White Trash at heart or what?

walking 20:00 [1] 1.0 km (20:00 / km)

carefully chosen shorter route to conserve joint resources & try to give enbrel a chance (?!)
fabulous sun & wind, up to grocery & back in the woods along the creek to minimize wind. Met a cute baby havanese, played w/ Tiffy & Dallice, Freckles, Buster, Yollick, & stared at a barky Dalmatian. Ice & elevate.

Monday Feb 4, 2008 #

Note

averaging almost 3km per day the last few days - could definitely feel it n the feet last night, but today seems pretty much normal. Also, ( & this is SO NOT AP) last night, most bizarrely, I was able to floss all my teeth in one go - usually hands need to rest at least twice, & it's almost impossibly painful to get at back teeth. This is another bizarre f(x)al benchmark - I sure didnt think that enbrel-assoc. improvements would show up in quite this way. Plus the above implied apparent ability to abuse my feet & get away w/ it. Almost (not quite) ready to admit to seeing some improvement. Am gonna ice feet this AM.

this may have been a bit much but it was fun - snow, down the creek & back up thru the woods, just me N Gyp. Icing feet, ow ow. (Oh, maybe this is why it's a bit much, forgot trip to corner groc., add that as well, 1.2 + 0.6...)
Tex Mex calzone for dinner, also taste-testing cream-bread vs water & oil bread - plain, buttered, & balsamic dip. Green beans on the side, & an apple-pear after...

walking 36:00 [1] 1.8 km (20:00 / km)

another great walk in the sunshine w/ Shelly & Su-Jane. Up to the train station, traced back along the ravine bike-trail, down to the parkway & halfway across, & then home, oof, we are all tired! Shelly did some obedience work, turns out when you only weigh 18 pounds, yer not ALWAYS in charge. Who Knew?
In other news, I now have to admit I recently bought & (successfully) used some high gluten flour, which is the first step into a slippery slide deep into the infinite-Barbie-accessory zone of bread-making...am considering purchasing a baking stone. arggghhh....luckily I have not a clue where one would buy such a thing.

walking 14:00 [1] 0.7 km (20:00 / km)

evening walk as well - met Tisha & Leo, Nina & Rocket, saw the Lab Twins, heard about Shelly, played w/ Jack. Wow. Barely had time for the requisite pee.

Snow!!
today we are going on a mom-&-daughter walk w/ Shelly.
have been considering lent next week - thought about sugar, thought about caffeine, then suddenly I thought I'd just do a classic no-meat-or-fowl Lent - and this way we can support this new fishmonger down the hill - just think, a fishmonger in this day of superstores....so I got out my SeaChoice list, looked at the number of lenten days not covered by tofu, beans, vegan pastas, & so on, and now I have a nice list of fish to discuss w/ them. Hope it works out. (Not utterly sure this constitutes a true abstinence, as in fact setting this challenge has enriched my life, maybe add a bit of daily thought or self-education about hunger/poverty?)

Sun!!

walking 36:00 [1] 1.8 km (20:00 / km)

fun walk W/ Shelly & Su-Jane & teeny Casper in the sun, over to the park & then back thru the Cortina area. Feet a lil sore from the two days in a row, but OK...

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

morning walk cuz D has early class. Met Tischa (she doesn't play), played w/ Coley, the Lab Twins, Happy, and twice w/ Freckles. Saw the golden crowned kinglets - they seem to forage much lower & slower in the mornings. Lotsa snow-digging, rolled in at least two excellently disgusting things. good time was had by all...

kofta was simply Disgusting to make (I am not a huge carnivore), pretty clearly very fatty, but pretty darn tasty - D like the veg version, I liked the spice version...meet in the middle?

walking 32:00 [1] 1.6 km (20:00 / km)

downtown on the train - banking, tea w/ Steve. Bought cookbook - attracted like moth to flame - bright pink, entitled Cook This - Recipes for the Goodtime Girl, & 80% off (cant beat a $5 cookbook). Feel great, sunny, credit thang appears to be corralled.

walking 22:00 [1] 1.1 km (20:00 / km)

afternoon walk, sunshine, played w/ Happy, Coby & Neo. A bit tired, not too bad. tea time, Disc Drive on CBC....
