Orienteering race 42:00 [3] 3.2 km (13:07 / km)

Sprint at Hammond Pond. First real exercise since Tuesday, as I came down with a nasty cough on Wednesday, lost my voice Thursday - Saturday...

I always find the Hammond Pond map challenging; the trails are confusing and the terrain is surprosingly technical. Made a couple blunders and a few bobbles. Still, quite enjoyable.

Orienteering race (memory-O) 1:02:00 [3] 3.2 km (19:22 / km)

Tried the memory O. Fun! Did well for the first 4. the route to 5 was easy, but I got confused in the parking lot and ran back to 4 to look at the map again. The blew it again on the way to 6. Got way off. Strange to reorient without a map. Somehow, I retraced my steps, found a control I had passed on the way to getting lost, and came up with a strategy baced on.... my memory. Surprisingly, the plan worked and I found 6 without resorting to the stapled emergency map in my pocket. Got to within 24 meters of 9, lost confidence, and ran back to 8 to check the map. Proceeded to 9 more carefully after having memorized more of a reasonable attack point. The rest of the course was straighforward.
