Eventually found a nice moonlit forest glade to camp in after rejecting a few alternatives - the most promising spot seemed good, but it was just of Devil Dog Road, so I thought I would give it a miss. It was a freezing cold night and I had to camp on a thin covering of snow in a Sup-air in most of my clothes. Didn't get much sleep, unsurprisingly.
Then headed up to Grand Canyon Village (on treacherous, icy roads) and set of on an epic run - down the Bright Angel trail to the Colorado, along the River trail, back up the S Kaibab and then a long slog back along the rim. 22 miles all told, and the climb was every bit as tough as I was expecting. I prefer routes that go up at the start, then down at the end, it's psychologically much easier that way. Hard to get the clothing right - it was -10 with wind chill at the top and +20 with sun at the bottom.
