Running 25:00 [2] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)
slept:9.0

Spent the night recovering in a motel in Page.

Drove past some interesting looking rocks just outside Page en route to Kanab and stopped to have a look. Turned out to be the Toadstool Garden, companion piece to its Kinder counterpart.

Running 1:50:00 [2] 18.0 km (6:07 / km)

Drove into the Vermillion Cliffs plateau along a road that got progressively worse and worse, until I ended up doing a 3-pt turn in deep mud on a 15% gradient and abandoning the car.

Hitched a lift in with a friendly couple and then ran down to some amazing slot canyons in the red sandstone. I was really looking for the Wave, an amazing rock formation, but had no idea where to find it and had no map. I asked some advice from some hikers who pointed me in the right direction, and I headed off into the desert following a trod and some small cairns. The trod evaporated once I hit the rock, and the cairns looked much the same as all the natural rock piles, so I just followed my nose and eventually found it. Had an insight into how it was formed when gusts of wind swept in and sandblasted my face.

I had a nervous moment or two on the way back, but found the trod again in the end, thanks to my famous sense of direction. It would not be fun to get lost in the desert.
