Cycling 1:00:00 [1]

Boris biking around all day. Probably spent almost 2hrs on the bikes, but much of it waiting at lights, etc. Good way to get around and learn how bits of the city actually join up on the surface.
8 AM

Running 35:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:50 / km)

Morning run with Jen to Regents Park, a small lap and back. Warm already, legs felt tired.
6 PM

Running 40:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (25:00 @3) 9.0 km (4:27 / km)

Afternoon run after a busy day of culture: V&A and Tate Modern, dead on my feet walking around, but felt OK running.

Running Drills 10:00 [3] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)

Drills in Regents Park.

Thursday Sep 29, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

No time for training, down to London for a conference. Good chance to take a bit of a rest.

Wednesday Sep 28, 2011 #

8 AM

Running 25:00 [2] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

IW.

Circuits 10:00 [1]

5 PM

Running 1:55:22 intensity: (37:00 @3) + (1:18:22 @4) 28.0 km (4:07 / km)

Marathon session. Out to Beeley then ran 40mins out at tempo pace along TPT, then faster on the way back slightly downhill overall. Took me ages to get going, with a niggling hip, but felt really good by the end, just cruising along in an efficient sort of way. A few hills and stony underfoot, but generally fast going.

Splits for the purpose of future comparison:
Rock in Beeley to Wharncliffe: 8.59
Big pylon in Wharncliffe: 30.15 (21.15)
Sculpture on TPT (10km): 40.11 (9.55)
Big pylon in Wharncliffe: 50.03 (9.51)
Back to edge of Wharncliffe: 70.12 (20.09)
Back to rock in Beeley (20km): 78.22 (8.09)

Ran comfortable fast on the way out to Beeley and back. Enjoyable sort of session.

8 AM

Running 30:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

IW enjoying the sunshine.
5 PM

Running 1:00:00 intensity: (35:00 @2) + (25:00 @5) 14.0 km (4:17 / km)

HFW, dropped off my bag and ran to Hillsborough Park for a session. 5x~1200 (figure8 in various directions and orders). 4.04, 3.56, 3.57, 3.58, 3.58 with a minute jog recovery. Took me a while to get going, this is the fastest I've run in ages, not very fast times, but felt pretty good; it's so nice to run without a pack weighing me down.

Circuits 10:00 [1]

Monday Sep 26, 2011 #

8 AM

Running 25:00 [2] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

IW, could be worse.
6 PM

Running 40:00 [3] 9.0 km (4:27 / km)

HFW via a laughably convoluted route. Kept it short as I didn't want to take any risks but felt quite good so ran at a decent pace.

Circuits 10:00 [1]

Sunday Sep 25, 2011 #

12 PM

Running 3:35:00 [2] 39.0 km (5:31 / km)

Got the train from York to Edale and ran back home via Hathersage with Rob and Gareth for the second half. I was grumpy to start with--too tired and not enough caffeine--and we bickered about training philosophies for the first hour or so. Perked up a bit after that thanks to the natural high of being out in the hills on a wet day, but the last half hour back along the top of Rivelin was a struggle.

I don't want to tempt fate, but ten days of high milage, mostly with a pack, mostly in flat shoes, seems to have more-or-less cured my plantar. Not a textbook solution.

Saturday Sep 24, 2011 #

10 AM

Orienteering 28:10 [5] 6.0 km (4:42 / km)

2xsprint races at Clifton Backies in York. Seemed like an unpromising bit of scrubland, but it had loads of ruined WWII airfield bunkers scattered around some bushy woodland with lots of little trails, so it was really tricky. I felt pretty flat but managed to run alright once I had a map in my hand.

Running 40:00 [2] 7.0 km (5:43 / km)

Warm up with Jegor and Josh, some jogging around between and ran back home with Jegor.
5 PM

Running 35:00 [3] 8.0 km (4:23 / km)

Spent the rest of the day walking around York seeing the sights. It was a struggle to drag myself out for an evening session up the Ings. Felt light headed but surprisingly effortless and ran at a comfortable pace.

Friday Sep 23, 2011 #

5 PM

Running 20:00 [2] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

Really quite dead today, and my siatic nerve seems to be irritated, giving me random sort of pains in my lower back when I stand up. Felt better for a short run, I think?

Running Drills 10:00 [3] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)

Quick set of drills, strides and sprints to make the run a bit more worthwhile.
10 PM

Circuits 10:00 [1]

Thursday Sep 22, 2011 #

8 AM

Running 30:00 [2] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)

IW, heavy pack but feeling better than yesterday.

Circuits 10:00 [1]

5 PM

Running 2:10:00 [2] 26.0 km (5:00 / km)

HFW with Rob and Alex. Porters, Burbage mines, Redmires, conduit, Head Stone, Rivelin. Nice and sociable, which helped me through it, feeling quite good and efficient by the end, but tired after.

Wednesday Sep 21, 2011 #

12 PM

Running 1:35:00 [3] 20.0 km (4:45 / km)

IW up Rivelin. Niggle, niggle, niggle.

Tuesday Sep 20, 2011 #

8 AM

Running 50:00 [2] 10.0 km (5:00 / km)

IW via Parkwood. Tired.

Circuits 10:00 [1]

6 PM

Running 58:00 intensity: (18:00 @2) + (40:00 @4) 14.0 km (4:09 / km)

HFW via Lodge Moor. Ran 10x3/1 tempo intervals, felt better than this morning.

Monday Sep 19, 2011 #

6 PM

Running 58:00 [3] 13.0 km (4:28 / km)

Up Loxley to Damflask and back the same way, about the flattest run possible from here. Felt tired but better than expected, the legs were moving fine apart from a bit of stiffness in my calves.

Circuits 10:00 [1]

Sunday Sep 18, 2011 #

10 AM

Running 1:34:18 intensity: (55:00 @2) + (39:18 @5) 20.0 km (4:43 / km)

Extended warm up with Rob up the Hathersage Gala route, made it back down to the start just in the nick of time. Bit slow to get going but perked up once we made it out to the climb and started to work on the front group. Made it to the front by the trig, but soon got passed by Rob, who had been similarly conservative at the start, on the descent. Tussled with Danger through the fields and hung on to Rob to come in 2nd. Bit surprised to feel so comfortable after yesterday, but the last undulating km back to Hathersage felt hard. Followed by an extended warm down via some of the race route, getting cheered on by the marshals who assumed that we were stragglers. Good session.

Saturday Sep 17, 2011 #

Event: Three Shires

10 AM

Running 3:20:00 [2] 32.0 km (6:15 / km)

Decided to skip Three Shires due to recent illness and went for an OMM session with Rob instead. Ladybower Inn, Back Tor, Margery Hill, N end of Derwent, straight up the other side and over to Alport, back via the breasts. Bit longer than expected and pretty wet and wild at times, but the run flew by thanks to Rob's stimulating company.

Friday Sep 16, 2011 #

5 PM

Running 1:34:00 intensity: (36:00 @2) + (58:00 @4) 22.0 km (4:16 / km)

Marathon session, out from Beeley along the TPT. Ran 30mins tempo then turned around and ran back a bit faster. Made it out to the power lines at the end of Wharncliffe and back in 28. Caught in a downpour at the far end and got soaked to the skin, but the rain was warm and it felt quite enjoyable.

Thursday Sep 15, 2011 #

8 AM

Running 50:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:00 / km)

IW via Parkwood Springs. Nice morning for it and felt good again, but foot stiff. Although it's much improved by the time off I still need to keep working on this.
5 PM

Running 1:10:00 intensity: (1:00:00 @2) + (10:00 @5) 11.0 km (6:22 / km)

HFW to meet Jen for a run up Loxley valley including a stop off for some blackberry picking. Ran 3x2.5 mins at the playing fields on the way home to inject a bit of pace into my tired legs.

Wednesday Sep 14, 2011 #

5 PM

Running 1:20:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (50:00 @3) + (10:00 @4) 17.0 km (4:42 / km)

Something resembling training. Spoon Lane route, felt good so added an extra climb in up to Crookes at the end.

Tuesday Sep 13, 2011 #

6 PM

Running 45:00 [3] 10.0 km (4:30 / km)

Definite improvement today, felt like running a bit faster and felt better after the run.The positive of this illness has been that my foot feels better than it has done for months.

Monday Sep 12, 2011 #

8 AM

Running 25:00 [2] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

Struggling IW.

Sunday Sep 11, 2011 #

4 PM

Running 55:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:30 / km)

Up Loxley Valley with Jen including a few blackberry stops. Still not feeling great. Was meant to be running the LDMT today.

Saturday Sep 10, 2011 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

On the mend, but still feel as though I have a stinking hangover. Didn't achieve much, made it out to see the Kaiser Chiefs in the evening.

Thursday Sep 8, 2011 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Had a sleepless night with a bit of a fever and felt bad in the morning. Went to see the doctor, who diagnosed a urinry tract infection and gave me some antibiotics. Spent most of the day shivvering or sweating in bed.

Wednesday Sep 7, 2011 #

11 AM

Running 25:00 [2] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

IW. Legs were on the sore side, but I felt much happier about that today, knowing that I had a hard session in them from last night, which seems to have blown away the cobwebs.

Circuits 10:00 [1]

5 PM

Running 1:40:00 intensity: (40:00 @2) + (1:00:00 @3) 20.0 km (5:00 / km)

HFW with Rob via Porter's, Ringinglow Road, Rivelin dam, Stannington. Wet wet wet right from the off which felt like a shock to the system. I went through a good patch for an hour or so, but then felt progressively worse.

Tuesday Sep 6, 2011 #

8 AM

Running 25:00 [2] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

This morning my legs didn't feel good. In fact nothing felt good. How can an easy jog into work feel this bad?

Circuits 10:00 [1]

5 PM

Running 1:16:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) + (26:00 @5) 16.0 km (4:45 / km)

HFW via Coppice Track for a set of Kenyan hills. I felt dreadful on the run up there, tired and spacey, and I told myself that if my times were slow on the first set then I would call it a day. To my surprise the first up and down were quick so I resigned myself to complete the full set of 6 and actually felt pretty strong by the end. Times were 3.47, 4.57, 3.50, 4.58, 3.52, 4.55, a bit wind assisted on the way up.

Good reminder that tiredness is often in the head and won't neccessarily impact on a good session. Wreck again on the way home though.

Monday Sep 5, 2011 #

8 AM

Cycling 1:15:00 intensity: (45:00 @2) + (30:00 @3)

Morning ride out to Ewden. Gusty on the tops so felt like hard work. Will spend a bit more time on the bike over the next few weeks to give the foot time to recover.
5 PM

Running 50:00 [3] 11.0 km (4:33 / km)

Loxley valley, ran quite fast for no good reason other than my legs felt good.

Circuits 10:00 [1]

Sunday Sep 4, 2011 #

8 AM

Running 1:10:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (25:00 @3) + (25:00 @4) 14.0 km (5:00 / km)

Run from my Grandparents' place with Jen to start with along the Strawberry Line, split up after the tunnel and I ventured up to Crook Peak before running back at a decent pace. Felt alright considering the state I was in yesterday pm.

Saturday Sep 3, 2011 #

Note

No time for running after 8.5 hours surveying. A long day, too long really, but there was a lot to get finished off and the old map was little help most of the time.
8 AM

Surveying 8:00:00 [0]

Friday Sep 2, 2011 #

Note

8hrs surveying at Blaise. Nice sunny day for it but hot work.
8 AM

Surveying 8:00:00 [0]

5 PM

Running 50:00 intensity: (25:00 @2) + (20:00 @4) + (5:00 @5) 10.0 km (5:00 / km)

Dragged myself out for a run after surveying. The only way to motivate myself was to turn it into some kind of session. Ran 2x10mins fast along the ridge and 3xreps up to the castle. Knackered.

Thursday Sep 1, 2011 #

Note

2hrs surveying at Blaise after the drive down.
3 PM

Surveying 2:00:00 [0]

6 PM

Running 1:05:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (35:00 @3) 12.0 km (5:25 / km)

With Craney from his pad in Westbury out through Blaise to Shirehampton. Nice route with plenty of up and down and good to have a guided tour of the local beauty spots. Then came last in a pub quiz at the Mouse.
