I think that this was a good one. Easy running for 10, plank, then 13 mins a bit faster with 8x100m strides, plank, then 10 to warm down. Moving much better on the strides than last week and for much of this run it felt as though I found my 'natural' running style again, which was like seeing a long-lost friend. Desperately hoping this wasn't just a flash in the pan but realistic that I will probably be stiff again tomorrow.

Undecided about running today, but fortunately Andy Preston talked me out of it. Certainly the right decision as I was stiff and sore all day. I'm hoping this is just what I should expect after Saturday (and Sunday) and that I'm still on an upward trajectory, but not really feeling like it today. Easy week ahead to let things settle right back down.

JK long, Kilnsey. Shouldn't have started today. The back felt stiff all morning, but I convinced myself that I would be able to run it off. This not helped by being late for my start so missing my usual routine of stretching and planks. Ran steady through the first few then ground to a halt up the hill to no. 6. Stopped for some stretching and plugged away at it, but should have called it a day much sooner. Hoping no extra damage done to recovery. Bit jealous not to be out in the wild storm later on.

Odd that the course was so obviously overplanned. I would have thought that Jamie Stevenson's run here last time there was a big event on the area would have given a good ballpark mpkm to aim for when planning (was 18km). Factor in hills and no one is ever going to hit that pace throughout.

Also surprising that the weather caused such a flap. Bad conditions were forecast so there was no reason to scrimp on kit on a high, exposed course. About time BOF adopted similar rules to FRA for events on open fells? Hat and gloves should certainly be a requirement on a day like that.

A race! JK Middle at Wass. Plan was to run with purpose but without going all out and it went well. A few twinges on the flatter path sections, but overall this felt so much better than, say, Canklow a couple of months ago. Couple of mistakes and 10 minutes down on GG, but I couldn't care less - this was all about getting around a course in one piece. The terrain and course were surprisingly good with some real variety; technical sections, fast running, no gratuitous climbing and no undergrowth at all. Good map too. Well worthy of a JK.

That was fun. From El Risco up a small path to some big cliffs, where I lost the trail of cairns. Hunted for a while before finding a narrow crack to ascend that emerged into a natural arch. From there the path improved to the main ridge, another smaller trail back via some barancos and waterfalls. The bum was sore for the first climb, but eased towards the end, pretty good in the evening.

Not supposed to be this long. Up the valley to San Pedro via a path that vanished into a baranco filled with prickly pears and other assorted defensive flora. Hunted around for a while before finding a route through the jungle, then pressed on with the plan to run up and over a pass back to town. The whole thing took well over 2 hours, but much of it was spent undergrowth bashing. The body held up remarkably well, but the back was a bit twitchy and bum a bit sorer at the end.

My bum was a bit grumbly on the way there and almost bailed but decided it was time to take a (hopefully calculated) risk. Certainly felt OK during the efforts and managed to run with a bit more explosive power than last time, although still not getting everything out. Felt a bit awkward on the jog back to the office. Came across a great quote in a book I'm reading:

"In human affairs of danger and delicacy successful conclusion is sharply limited by hurry. So often men trip up by being in a rush. If one were properly to perform a difficult and subtle act, he should first inspect the end to be achieved and then, once he had accepted the end as desirable, he should forget it completely and concentrate solely on the means. By this method he would not be moved to false action by anxiety or hurry or fear. Very few people learn this."

So it is with injuries. Gotta love Steinbeck.
