Sunday Nov 25

Running race 37:22 [5]10 km (3:44 / km) +190m 3:25 / km
South Yorks XC at Rotherham. Yesterday I was 100% not going to run, last night I was 50%, this morning I was resigned to it. But the sun was shining and the course was good - twisty and turny with a few big climbs - so I actually ended up enjoying it quite a bit. Apologies to Mike and Rach for my pre-race doom-mongering. The pace was fast at the start and a big group were in front after the first hill, so I spent most of the first few kms reeling in and overtaking. Then I got into a tussle with Armond, but he was just too strong for me at the end. 2x big lap: 11.37, 11.48, 2x small lap: 7.56, 8.01.
C • Oli, you're a hard bastard.... 3
Running warm up/down 40:00 [2]6 km (6:40 / km)
The long lap before and after plus a bit of striding and jogging about.

Orienteering 2:15:00 [3]*** 18 km (7:30 / km)
OK so this is the kind of session I usually love; a long o' in tough terrain with a handful short sprinty sections in the nicest bits of Burbage and Blacka. To be fair it started off OK (running with Al, Mike, Danger, Camel and Little Rob), but by half way the wind was up and the rain was horizontal, all the marshes had a thin layer of ice on top and I was cold in spite of all the layers I was wearing. Turned into a bit of a battle for survival. Al and I tried to do the whole thing but gave up near the end and went to the pub to thaw out. Poor old rach had put a load of effort into this session and it should have been really good...I guess I almost enjoyed it.
C • I was gonna say you were wi... 1

Friday Nov 23

Climbing 1:00:00 [1]
Hanging out at the 'works. Did a few harder (less easy) routes this week and felt a lot more controlled, although still rubbish obviously. Pretty big group down tonight and some nice dinner at Kim's after.
Note
Finished off eccy woods, woo hoo!

Thursday Nov 22

Running intervals 25:00 [5]5 km (5:00 / km)
Hallamshire reps in Hillsborough Park (apparently too wet to do the hill session that was planned). 4x long figure of 8, each just under 4 mins with about 1.30 recovery. Mass start on each one which made it especially tough trying to hang on to Scott and Luke. Every bit as hard as Tuesday night.
Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]6 km (5:00 / km)
Run around Hillsborough before and after. It was horrible tonight.

Wednesday Nov 21

Running 25:00 [2]4 km (6:15 / km)
(rest day)
Busy day so just a littl'un.

Tuesday Nov 20

Track session intervals 30:00 [5]6 km (5:00 / km)
Hallamshire track session in freezing cold rain. Usual strides and drills followed by 4x1500 in 4.41, 4.49, 4.54, 4.55. Felt reasonably OK in spite of a too fast start (as usual), but my legs were seizing up a bit in the rain coming up from the track and down from the sky. Not nice.
Running 55:00 [2]10 km (5:30 / km)
To track and back with a big crowd of Danger, Camel, Rob, Mike and Al. Very sociable, but I felt buggered by the time I made it home.

Monday Nov 19

Note
Noooooooo
C • I feel for you, I really do 19
Circuits 40:00 [3]
Extra-long session with some all-new exercises this week, the excitement was palpable. Also doubling up so that you used the same bit twice in a row. It hurt more than usual.
Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]3 km (6:40 / km)
Uncomfortable running with a laptop bag and some warm up in the hall.
