Running 30:47 [5] 5.73 km (5:22 / km) +348m 4:07 / km

Creag Duhbh (sp?) hill race from the Newtonmore Highland games. Stacked field due to British champs status and a fast and mad start with a lap of the grass track then some fences to vault, a river to ford and a steep bank to climb. I was a way back by the time we hit the single track through the woods and decided to sit in and keep my powder dry. The trouble was, the track was narrow all the way up, so I didn't get a chance to pass a few folk until near the top. The plus side was that I felt good for the descent, so pushed on and got past a few more on the way down. Held on for a decent-ish 27th and 3rd V40, which was enough to earn me 2nd overall for the series.

This was a really fun race and I was surprised to feel OK after the classic race yesterday. Cheered Jenny on in the 4x150m after and then lucked out with an invite back to chez Hill-Strain for a couple of nights.

S6 Day day 5 long distance WRE on Craig a Barns. Great area and a nice course with plenty of challenge and a few easier sections. A few mistakes in the first half, but better towards the end and felt pretty strong mostly. A way down on an impressive run from GG, but hey, I'm a little out of practice at these kinds of things.

Orienteering race 1:20:18 [4] 13.69 km (5:52 / km) +322m 5:15 / km

S6 Days day 4. Fairly pointless sort of area with zero navigational challenge other than some controls tucked into unmapped green plantation. Took it steady other than a couple of long downhill legs where I tried to open up the stride a bit. Warm down over the last couple of controls in the woods.

S6 Days day 3 middle distance and WRE on a brand new area. I wanted to take this one quite seriously and managed to hold together a good run, although with a few scrappy bits of time loss. The biggest one came when I smashed my quad into a branch on the way to no. 2 and had to hobble my way around after that. Seized up nicely after.

Running warm up/down 5:32 [2] 0.72 km (7:40 / km) +1m 7:37 / km

S6D day 2, Edenchip. Running reasonably well until the trap at 21, where I ran straight to the river, saw the red line, got cross with the planning, ran all the way round, got confused and missed out the control. Annoying, but would have been more annoying if I was running the whole week. Enjoyed the rest of the course and the terrain, anyway.
