Dear Peak 15 Trigs, inevitable really after the weeks of trig bagging. Had Tom’s record of 8.27 in mind, but knew it was a tall order. Realised by about Bleaklow that it was not going to happen and downgraded my aim to sub-9, which became a bit of a battle that kept me going through the latter miles. Had to run the last section from Rod Moor very hard indeed.
Nice route and a nice day for it with the advantage of very dry underfoot conditions, but very little water about. Resorted to some suspicious brown trickles in a few places and had to ration carefully for the last 15 miles or so. There was more rough terrain than I had really appreciated but also a lot of fast, flattish sections of road and flagstones, which were hard on the legs. Relatively few hills too considering.
Body behaved itself more-or-less although never felt amazing, probably unsurprising given the lack of proper hills and terrain bashing in my legs of late. ITB flared up at about 50km as usual, but eased off after a while (or maybe the soreness of everything else just balanced it out).
A few events of note: an animal had eaten half of my stashed banana at Yorkshire Bridge, but I managed to salvage the other half; enjoyed seeing the Win Hill trig resplendent in its new colours; rescued a sheep that was well and truly stuck in a fence near Alport; collected lots of litter including including the standard helium balloon that a run in the Peak never fails to unearth.
First time trig bags of Harry Hut and Cock Hill. Looking forward to not seeing another trig again for a while!
