Met Sydney at the Smith track, but it's being painted so we just did loops on the dirt path around athletic fields (about .7 mile each). Did two a bit faster (5:05, 4:55)

N'hampton 5k cross country race. 80's but not too humid. Legs wanted to go faster, but lungs were the weak link. Goal was to be under 20, but each mile was at least 5 sec slow. Splits: 6:16, 6:21; 6:56; 39.

8x400x400. Very muggy (Dewpoint: 67), hazy sunshine. Sub-90 400's never felt so hard! Splits: 89,90,90,91,88,89,88,87.

Old CTC course. Hot, no shade. Started at 8 minute pace, finished at 7.

Juggler. Pushed a bit in the heat (mid 80's). Lightweight New Balance road shoes add pep on the trails. 8:02, 9:04, 6:29 (23:36), 6:32, 9:00, 7:30 (23:03).

6 x 400 x 200, with Sydney (she did 8). Quads still sore from Thunderbolt, but hung in OK. 88.8; 87.6; 88.3; 88.2; 88.7; 87.7.

Trail Run 2:14:02 [5] 13.5 mi (9:55 / mi)
Mt Greylock Trail Race. Cool, 50's to low 60's. Very wet. Good effort, about a minute and half slower than last year, but on much less training. (10 minutes slower than 1999!) Started running out of steam on Overlook trail. Good news: I didn't get passed on the plunge down Thunderbolt (and I passed two!); and no falls! Aid station splits: 51:15; 1:13:33; 1:40:20; 1:50:02 (summit).

Breakheart Reservation meet. Very dense vegetation made for slow going. Tried to be careful and deliberate with mapreading but still made one bonehead mistake costing 5 minutes, and a couple 1 minute mistakes (and a couple sub-optimal route choices). But no injuries for a change! (I think NEOC added about twelve minutes to my time - starter error? - but not worth making a fuss.)

Easy run with Peter on Mt. Tom. Showed him the boulder on his map that doesn't exist (north of the Lake Bray parking lot).

An old relay course at Northfield. Got interrupted by new high fences topped with barbed wire.

Was heading for trails, but the empty track beckoned as I went by, so I changed plans and did four quarters (with trail shoes, in rain, mostly in lane 2): 86, 88, 88, 88.

To and around Smith fields. Did 10 minute tempo run in middle. Knee getting better, but not ready for a serious trail run.

WCOC meet at Ansonia Nature Center. Red, 6.0k. Bashed my knee (again) on a rock going to 3, and then hobbled around course making lots of mistakes (at least 20 minutes). Enjoyable anyway, but getting frustrated with my poor orienteering.
