Went out at a modest pace but by an hour it was clear I wasn't going to keep it up; so, rather than suffer, I switched to a walk-jog for the rest. Walked anything I couldn't see over. Nice day (60 deg.), dry course. Splits: 38:11; 48:28; 54:20; 52:28. 21 minutes slower than two years ago! |

| Day2, on Lake Popolopen map. Spiked all six controls, but poor route choices probably cost 5-6 minutes. Overall: encouraging to get through a two-day A-meet with no major bungles. If only I had more stamina in the legs (and courage on the downhills). |

| Macedonia "blue" using permanent markers on trees. First time on this map. I totally botched the third control: I missed the trail and ended up traversing the steep, rocky, icy hillside the entire 700 meters; then I started hunting around over 100 meters too soon; lost 15-18 minutes. Also lost 4-5 minutes because I couldn't find the marker for the last control, even though I had spiked it! (Sometimes, you could be on top of a marker, but on the wrong side of the tree.) Oh well, otherwise pretty clean, though still slow. Low 30's and windy. |
