Wednesday Apr 30

Road Run 33:57 [2] 4.1 mi (8:17 / mi)
Slow jog was all I could do after a long day.

Tuesday Apr 29

Trail Run 1:01:49 [3] 6.5 mi (9:31 / mi)
With Peter, straight to the top of Mt Toby in 30:56, then circuitous route back to the power line and down. At least the downhills felt OK.

Monday Apr 28

cycling 50:36 [3]
Leeds loop, 14.2 miles. Felt pretty good once my legs loosened up. Split 28:12.

Sunday Apr 27

Trail Run 8:00 [2] 1.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
warm-up
Orienteering 59:35 [4] 5.3 km (11:15 / km)
Wolf Den Green. Tried moving a bit faster (which means less mapreading). Compass bearings were a bit rough (still not very accurate with the thumb compass); and 6 minute error due to poor mapreading near the control.
Orienteering 52:11 [3] 4 km (13:03 / km)
Did the Orange course, slower, and less accurately. Also, when copying I circled the wrong feature on my map, then corrected; but I went to the wrong one first, and hunted around before realizing what I had done: lost at least 5 minutes.

Friday Apr 25

Road Run 34:17 [2] 4.1 mi (8:22 / mi)
Recovery jog.

Thursday Apr 24

Trail Run 41:49 [3] 5.0 mi (8:22 / mi)
Frost to Flat Hills and back. Felt OK, but still no hill climbing gear. 8:08; 22:10; 34:23; 41:48.

Wednesday Apr 23

Road Run 35:32 [4] 4.9 mi (7:14 / mi)
UMass loop, pushed pretty hard. Cool weather helped.

6:38, 12:05, 24:04, 28:30, 35:32.

Tuesday Apr 22

machines 25:00 [3]
Two problems: intestinal distress since yeserday, and strained right hamstring from weekend gardening.

Monday Apr 21

Orienteering 1:18:50 [3] 6.9 km (11:26 / km)
Took Patriot's Day off and went down to Hurd St. Park. Did the fifteen permanent markers and six points from an old green course. Woods fast and wide open.

Sunday Apr 20

cycling 51:59 [2]
Leeds loop, 14.2 m. Legs felt pretty good. 27:27.

Saturday Apr 19

Trail Run 3:13:26 [3] 16.0 mi (12:05 / mi)
N. Nipmuck trail race. 3400 ft. of climb (by their count). Went out at a modest pace but by an hour it was clear I wasn't going to keep it up; so, rather than suffer, I switched to a walk-jog for the rest. Walked anything I couldn't see over. Nice day (60 deg.), dry course. Splits: 38:11; 48:28; 54:20; 52:28. 21 minutes slower than two years ago!

Friday Apr 18

Note
Just noticed the cadets added 24 minutes to my day 2 time. Go Army! (Too bad I'm not the guy they say did it in 6 minutes.)

Thursday Apr 17

Trail Run 45:45 [3] 5.5 mi (8:18 / mi)
Frost, then trails to the West, and along golf course edge. Legs finally recovered from last weekend.

Wednesday Apr 16

Road Run 21:17 [4] 2.9 mi (7:20 / mi)
Squeezed a quick run in before teaching. Warm. 6:39; 12:13.

Tuesday Apr 15

Trail Run 56:33 [2] 6.0 mi (9:24 / mi)
Frost, very leisurely: 3 hours sleep, tired from weekend, and temp in the 80's. Lots of mud on the trail and the detritus of logging.

Monday Apr 14

machines 20:00 [3]
stepper

Sunday Apr 13

Road Run 6:00 [2] 0.75 mi (7:59 / mi)
warm-up.
Orienteering 1:20:50 [4] 6.1 km (13:15 / km) +270m 10:51 / km
spiked:6/6c
Day2, on Lake Popolopen map. Spiked all six controls, but poor route choices probably cost 5-6 minutes. Overall: encouraging to get through a two-day A-meet with no major bungles. If only I had more stamina in the legs (and courage on the downhills).

Saturday Apr 12

Orienteering 1:27:40 [4] 7.75 km (11:19 / km) +260m 9:41 / km
spiked:10/14c
West Point A-meet, Red. Day1 on Bull Pond map. Made about four minutes of mistakes spread over four controls. Very slow and careful on the downhills. Second half was fast: an orange/yellow course.
Road Run 6:00 [2] 0.75 mi (7:59 / mi)
warm-up.

Thursday Apr 10

Road Run 33:30 [2] 4.1 mi (8:10 / mi)
Easy jog around UMass loop.

Wednesday Apr 9

Road Run 37:18 [3] 4.9 mi (7:37 / mi)
UMass. Tired, but finished strong. Encouraging. 7:15; 25:44; 30:13

Tuesday Apr 8

Track 12:46 [5] 2.0 mi (6:23 / mi)
2 x 1600 with 800 rest. 6:22; 6:24. Right on target.
Track 19:00 [2] 2.25 mi (8:26 / mi)
Before, ...

Monday Apr 7

Road Run 31:18 [3] 4.1 mi (7:38 / mi)
UMass loop. Legs felt pretty good (except going up the Amity Hill). Hip almost better, at least at this modest pace.

Sunday Apr 6

Orienteering 2:03:59 [3] 7.1 km (17:28 / km)
Macedonia "blue" using permanent markers on trees. First time on this map. I totally botched the third control: I missed the trail and ended up traversing the steep, rocky, icy hillside the entire 700 meters; then I started hunting around over 100 meters too soon; lost 15-18 minutes. Also lost 4-5 minutes because I couldn't find the marker for the last control, even though I had spiked it! (Sometimes, you could be on top of a marker, but on the wrong side of the tree.) Oh well, otherwise pretty clean, though still slow. Low 30's and windy.

Saturday Apr 5

Track (mapreading) 37:00 [2] 4.0 mi (9:15 / mi)
Indoors. Avoiding the crappy weather.

Friday Apr 4

machines 30:00 [3]
crosstrainer, h11

Thursday Apr 3

Trail Run 1:06:58 [3] 5.0 mi (13:23 / mi)
Seven sisters from Notch to Low Place and back. Slow. High 30's and drizzle. 9:56; 14:52; 8:47 (33:35); 9:43; 14:48; 8:53 (33:23).

Tuesday Apr 1

Trail/Road Run 53:53 [3] 6.4 mi (8:25 / mi)
Puffers from UMass. Tired. Cold and snowing.
