Slow jog with mapreading.

Wednesday Oct 29

Road Run 29:25 [4] 4.1 mi (7:11 / mi)
UMass loop after dark. Faster. 6:37, 5:45, 9:57, 7:05.

Tuesday Oct 28

Road Run 34:40 [4] 5.0 mi (6:55 / mi)
Old CTC race course. Hardest I've run in quite a while. Mile splits: 6:52, 6:48, 13:50, 7:09.
Road Run 8:00 [3] 1.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
Warm-up.

Sunday Oct 26

Orienteering 2:17:32 [3] 6.7 km (20:32 / km)
Day 2: should have stayed in bed. A personal worst: lost nearly 60 minutes, 35-40 on the reentrant at #9.
Golf anyone?

Red - Splits

Saturday Oct 25

Orienteering 1:21:18 [3] 6.74 km (12:04 / km) +250m 10:11 / km
Red at WCOC A-meet on Pond Mt. Had a good day. Slow, especially on anything rocky, but read the map well and had only one miss costing about 2 minutes (was left of boulder on #8; if it wasn't for my tunnel vision, I might have seen it when I went by). Foot didn't bother me.

Red Day 1 - Splits

Thursday Oct 23

machines 45:00 [3]
stepper 20 (l11, 312c); bike 15, cross 10.

Wednesday Oct 22

Road Run 30:19 [3] 4.1 mi (7:24 / mi)
UMass loop. Foot hurt, especially going up Amity hill. 6:41, 6:12, 10:16, 7:10

Tuesday Oct 21

Road Run 30:51 [2] 3.75 mi (8:14 / mi)
Testing foot on flat dirt road around Smith field. AHR: 127.

Monday Oct 20

machines 34:00 [2]
bike, 14; elliptical, 20. Arch of left foot black, blue, and tender; but don't think I did any structural damage. More worrying is a strain (again) at top of left hamstring.

Sunday Oct 19

Orienteering 2:29:03 [2] 8.4 km (17:45 / km) +335m 14:48 / km
Blue course at Powisett Peak. From bad to worse. Injured my foot leaving #3 and hobbled around the rest of the course with pain getting worse and worse. And made mistakes on 10 out of 20 controls (25-30 minutes).
Trail Run 9:00 [2] 1.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
warm-up mile.

Saturday Oct 18

Road Run 31:59 [2] 3.9 mi (8:12 / mi)
Childs Park, easy

Thursday Oct 16

Trail/Road Run 48:52 [4] 6.4 mi (7:38 / mi)
Puffers loop from UMass. On goal -- over two minutes faster than last week -- but had to work, especially since left hip is sore again. 7:46, 7:47, 18:00, 7:56, 7:22.

Wednesday Oct 15

machines 38:00 [3]
20 minutes stepper (m10), 18 minutes bike (h9)

Tuesday Oct 14

Trail Run 1:13:56 [3] 8.5 mi (8:41 / mi)
Frost to Depot and back. Modest pace, but right on goal. Legs felt a bit tired, especially towards end. Breathing still labored. 8:58, 10:00, 7:04, 11:44 (37:47), 11:39, 6:49, 9:41, 8:01 (36:09).

Monday Oct 13

Note
Hike up Monadnock from Gilson pond, 7 mile round trip, about 2000 feet of climb. Perfect fall day; Boston skyscrapers visible from the top. Second most climbed mountain in the world, they say, after Mt. Fuji. Seemed like no. 1 today.

Sunday Oct 12

Trail Run 54:50 [3] 6.0 mi (9:08 / mi)
Mt. Tom loop. Decent effort.

Saturday Oct 11

Orienteering 1:26:11 [3] 5.4 km (15:58 / km)
NEOC club champs at Diamond Hill, RI. Very poor showing. Short, fast red course, with lots of trails and walls, so I tried to go faster, and (once again) screwed up big time (lost 12 minutes on 3, 7 minutes on 10). Hope springs eternal. On the positve side: felt good physically.
Road Run 9:00 [2] 1.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
warm-up.

Thursday Oct 9

Trail/Road Run 51:14 [3] 6.4 mi (7:59 / mi)
Puffers. Legs feel fine. 16:05, 19:25,15:43

Wednesday Oct 8

Road Run 32:14 [3] 4.1 mi (7:51 / mi)
UMass loop. Expected worse. 7:17, 5:50, 11:13, 7:53.

Tuesday Oct 7

machines 24:00 [3]
stepper, testing sore legs.

Sunday Oct 5

Orienteering 6:45:39 [3] 26.3 km (15:25 / km)
Hudson Highlander! Thanks to cool weather and Gatorade, did about as well as could be expected. Mix of following (on five or six controls, with minimal map contact), navigating with others around, and, for about 8k, entirely on my own (including all of the third loop, except where I passed Tim G., and Doug G. and brother?). I started cramping already in second loop - first toes, then right hamstring - so I didn't exert myself much on third and fourth loops: slow jog on (level or downhill) trails, walk otherwise. 20-25 minutes of mistakes, the worst when others were around and I allowed myself to be careless.

- Splits

Thursday Oct 2

machines 51:00 [3]
bike 20, elliptical 15, stepper 16.

Wednesday Oct 1

Road Run 37:01 [3] 4.9 mi (7:33 / mi)
UMass loop. Felt pretty good. 50 deg. 7:02, 5:42, 12:28, 4:27, 7:20.
