Saturday Jul 31

cycling 52:48 [2]
Cycle around Long Is. and Winauakee. Modest effort except for hills that required work to keep from toppling over.

Friday Jul 30

Trail Run 2:10:45 [3]8.0 mi (16:20 / mi)
Mt. Tom, Field, Avalon loop. Relatively easy double for peakbaggers; but not a lot of good running. Too hot and tired to add the out-and-back to Mt. Willey. Took my only (real) fall in the White Mtns. 20 meters from the bottom! Split at Tom: 53:30, Field: 1:20:53. HR: 123/149.

Thursday Jul 29

Road Run 36:10 [3]5.0 mi (7:14 / mi)
R.O. Brown Rd. and back, pushing hard the second half.

Wednesday Jul 28

Note
Hike up Mt Israel, 4.2 miles, with the Wolf-McLean clan. Pleasant, but in a cloud at the top. Collected bright yellow chanterelles which made a nice appetizer before dinner.

Tuesday Jul 27

Trail Run 2:47:39 [3]11.0 mi (15:14 / mi)
Finally did the Tripyramids. Took Scauer Ridge and Pine Brook up (bypassing the North slide - yeah, I'm a wimp); very slow down the aptly named South "slide". Good effort, overall. Went early and just beat the rain: had the whole mountain to myself. AHR: 128. 25:08 (2.6 m.), 38:18 (3.8 m.), 1:20:09 (N. peak), 1:35:17 (middle peak), 1:43:34 (s. peak).

Monday Jul 26

cycling 52:29 [3]7.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
End of Long Island, pushing hard on the way back. AHR 141. 27:05, 25:54.

Sunday Jul 25

Note
Family hike: Old Bridle to Mt. Lafeyette, then loop over Mt. Lincoln and down the Falling Waters trail. About 3500 feet of climb, 8.9 miles. Steep descent a bit too much for Margi: kids finished an hour ahead; I stayed back.

Saturday Jul 24

Trail Run 2:22:27 [3]11.6 mi (12:17 / mi)
Smarts Brook trail to Jennings Peak and back, about 2700 feet of climb. Mostly runnable (slowly!) to the top of the ridge, though plenty of obstacles and wet areas on the trail. One bottle not enough: dry before reaching the top. AHR 131, MHR 149. Splits: 1:10:09 (ridge, 5.1); 1:18:28 (Jennings, 5.8), 1:26:59 (ridge, 6.5)

Thursday Jul 22

cycling 3:47:00 [3]
With Peter, finishing off our two day biathlon. Around Winnepausakee starting at Moultonbourough Neck Rd. and going counterclockwise. About 60 miles of rolling hills, but no killer climbs. Hot and humid. The pace was moderate, but steady - just under 16 mph.

Wednesday Jul 21

Trail Run 3:24:36 [3]13.6 mi (15:02 / mi)
Loop over Mt Carrigain with Peter. Warm and humid. Lots of nice trail running, then steep climb up boulderfall (ending with 1200 feet in .6 mile), then a punishing downhill over endless rocky trail (couldn't stay with Peter on that). Good endurance training. Splits: 21:17 (1.7), 51:47 (4), 1:21:02 (6.7), 2:16:58 (8.6, top), 3:07:55 (11.9)

Tuesday Jul 20

Note
Family hike over Welch-Dickey loop. Great hike over open, blueberry filled ledges overlooking the Waterville valley.
Note
Tennis with Peter: 6-1, 6-0.

Monday Jul 19

Trail Run 1:24:25 [2]5.1 mi (16:32 / mi)
Morgan-Percival loop. Very wet and slippery on the rocks. AHR: 124, MHR: 148.

Sunday Jul 18

Road Run 39:03 [3]5.0 mi (7:48 / mi)
Winaukee and back. Kept up a good pace over very hilly course. 19:58, 19:05.

Saturday Jul 17

cycling 1:02:35 [3]
Haydenville loop, pretty good pace. 18.2 mph.

Friday Jul 16

Trail/Road Run 49:50 [3]6.4 mi (7:46 / mi)
Puffers loop, midday. Didn't feel well: had to work -- and take a couple stops -- to break 50 minutes.

Thursday Jul 15

Trail/Road Run 12:04 [5]2.0 mi (6:02 / mi)
Morning track workout with Peter. 4 x 800 x 400. Very humid, heavy breathing, but legs and energy were good. Impending intestinal problem prevented doing a 5th or 6th. 301.3 (141), 3:00.2 (151), 3:01.1 (155), 3:01.9 (155). MHR: 159.
Trail/Road Run 39:00 [3]4.5 mi (8:39 / mi)
Before, after, between.

Tuesday Jul 13

Trail Run 20:39 [5]3.1 mi (6:39 / mi)
Noho XC race. Cool (60's), but humid. Steady effort, if undistinguished. Peter 30 seconds back, Jim 30 seconds ahead. Chasing Seth the whole way, but couldn't stay with him. AHR: 153, MHR 159. Same HR's as two weeks ago, but four seconds faster. 6:28 (149), 6:29 (155), 7:02 (156), 40 (156).
Trail/Road Run 32:00 [2]3.75 mi (8:31 / mi)
Before and after.

Monday Jul 12

Trail/Road Run 39:50 [2]4.75 mi (8:23 / mi)
Inner loop, tired.

Sunday Jul 11

cycling 2:03:51 [3]
Conway loop (rt. 5 to 116 to Whately Rd. to Haydenville Rd. to N. Farms). 34.7 miles, 16.8 av speed, AHR: 123, MHR: 142. Good effort. 47:11 (headwind), 23:01, 35:44, 17:53.

Saturday Jul 10

Track 15:33 [5]2.5 mi (6:13 / mi)
Two 1600's, then an 800, with 4 minutes in between. Mid-80's, and only 100 m. of track shaded, made this tough. 6:16, 6:16, 3:01. MHR 159.
Trail/Road Run 26:00 [2]3.0 mi (8:39 / mi)
The remainder.

Friday Jul 9

Trail/Road Run 46:03 [3]5.5 mi (8:22 / mi)
Outer loop, easy.

Thursday Jul 8

Trail/Road Run 49:58 [4]7.0 mi (7:08 / mi)
Mill River-Clement St. loop. Warm and very humid, but felt rested and strong. Best time on this loop in three or four years. 6:22, 16:50, 11:19, 15:27.

Tuesday Jul 6

Trail/Road Run 20:51 [4]2.9 mi (7:11 / mi)
4 laps around Smith field. Felt good; low humidity. 5:21, 5:15, 5:10, 5:05.
Road Run 15:36 [2]1.75 mi (8:54 / mi)
To and from.

Monday Jul 5

Trail Run 1:10:54 [3]7.5 mi (9:26 / mi)
From Amethyst: Frost to M&M to Pelham Rd and back. High 70's and very muggy: just didn't have the energy to push at all, especially on the way back (I carried water, but no sugar). I remembered that this section of trail didn't have many deer flies: that memory is now erased. AHR: 139, MHR: 152. Splits at N. Valley, dirt road, and Pelham Rd. 18:44, 9:42, 7:52, 6:57, 9:29, 18:10.

Sunday Jul 4

Road Run 19:51 [5]3.1 mi (6:24 / mi)
July 4th 5k road race in Springfield. Goal was to break 20, so I'm content. 70's with moderate humidity; but full sun and very little shade made it feel a lot hotter. Used to run this race two minutes faster, last time in '98. AHR: 153, MHR: 157. 6:11 (147), 6:14 (155), 7:26 (156). (2 mile split at least 10 seconds short.)
Road Run 20:00 [3]2.5 mi (7:59 / mi)
Mile and a half warm up. Mile cooldown with Rich Clark.
cycling 52:00 [2]
Leeds loop, easy.

Friday Jul 2

Trail/Road Run 54:28 [3]7.0 mi (7:46 / mi)
Mill R. loop, low 80's. Felt hard. 37:38, 16:49.

Thursday Jul 1

Track 12:16 [5]2.0 mi (6:08 / mi)
Smith track. 8x400x200. Didn't feel great - steamy conditions after heavy downpour - but the pace wasn't too arduous, even with the shorter rests (started at 1:05, drifted to 1:30 by end). 93.1 (132), 93.9 (145), 92.8 (147), 93.1 (148), 91.9 (150), 90.7 (152), 90.4 (150), 89.8 (152)
Track 36:00 [2]4.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
Before, between, after.
