Friday Dec 31

Trail/Road Run 46:12 [3]5.5 mi (8:23 / mi)
Mill R. loop from Smith fields. Back sore, still suffering from the end of a cold.

Wednesday Dec 29

machines 30:00 [3]
Elliptical, at Marriot hotel in Boston. 16 hour work days. Didn't go outside for three days straight.

Monday Dec 27

Road Run 23:27 [3]2.8 mi (8:22 / mi)
UMass. Still sick, and bitter cold.

Saturday Dec 25

Trail/Road Run 42:00 [1]4.0 mi (10:29 / mi)
28 minutes with Adam on the Cross Country course (including 3-4 minutes of walking), then meadows loop from home. My cold is in full bloom, so the very slow pace was just fine.

Thursday Dec 23

Road Run 32:02 [3]4.1 mi (7:48 / mi)
UMass. Felt a bit better today.

Wednesday Dec 22

Trail/Road Run 56:02 [2]6.4 mi (8:44 / mi)
Puffers loop from UMass. Back still sore. Felt interminable.

Tuesday Dec 21

Road Run 42:28 [2]4.9 mi (8:39 / mi)
UMass loop, after dark, 20 deg, slippery, back sore, another respiratory infection, fading towards the end. Otherwise fine.

Monday Dec 20

machines (elliptical) 35:00 [3]

Sunday Dec 19

Trail Run 1:50:14 [2]10.0 mi (11:01 / mi)
On Mt Toby with Charlie, the loop that goes from Peter's to the gate, down to the river, and back up to N. Mt. (Peter stayed home nursing his calf.) Pleasant relaxed pace. Time includes a couple of wrong turns and headscratching episodes.

Saturday Dec 18

Trail/Road Run 40:28 [3]4.75 mi (8:31 / mi)
Inner XC loop from home.

Friday Dec 17

machines (elliptical) 35:00 [3]

Thursday Dec 16

Trail/Road Run 50:50 [3]6.4 mi (7:56 / mi)
Puffers from UMass.

Wednesday Dec 15

machines (elliptical) 30:00 [3]

Tuesday Dec 14

machines (ellipical) 30:00 [3]

Sunday Dec 12

Trail Run 1:02:22 [2]6.0 mi (10:24 / mi)
Jogging a mix of trails at Mt Tom, with mapreading (and reading glasses!). I'm trying out the Dan Schaublin method of putting glasses low on the nose so that one can still see out over them. Not sure this will work for me: I like to see where I'm putting my feet when it's rocky or wet. (Some trail changes since the Billy goat: the white blazed trail above the Keystone has been rerouted so as to around the steep rocky hillside.)

Saturday Dec 11

Road Run (race) 20:07 [5]3.1 mi (6:29 / mi)
Downtown Northampton charity race brought out 250 runners. Did the best I could, about as expected. 38th place. No splits.
Road Run 12:00 [3]1.5 mi (7:59 / mi)
Some quick running before, some slow running after.

Thursday Dec 9

Trail Run 1:04:00 [3]7.0 mi (9:08 / mi)
From Mill R. with Peter, exploring some trails around Eastman Brook, some open field running, and a bit of woods running south of upper Mill R. Easy start, then moderate. Felt sluggish, but Peter (qua tour guide) made it enjoyable.

Wednesday Dec 8

Road Run 51:15 [2]5.9 mi (8:41 / mi)
Sand Hill loop. Legs felt very tired. Especially slow because I was wearing trail shoes, and tried to run, where possible, on the grassy strip next to the road.

Tuesday Dec 7

Track (tempo) 20:30 [4]3.0 mi (6:50 / mi)
Smith. Unfortunately, I needed a pit stop at about 2 1/4 miles. 6:53, 6:55, 6:42.
Track 13:00 [2]1.5 mi (8:39 / mi)
Mile before, half mile after.

Sunday Dec 5

Orienteering 1:17:02 [4]6.43 km (11:59 / km)
Red course at Macedonia, second time on this map, perfect weather in high 40's. Tried to run faster and not stop to read the map (10 out of 14 legs were under 10 m/k), but made mistakes on the other four, two of which I messed up pretty bad. On 3, I went right to the feature, a cliff (spike!), but didn't see the flag around the far side and wandered in a big circle before coming back 5 minutes later. (I did the same with the other cliff, #6, but the surrounding stone walls prevented me from wandering very far; must show some sort of lack of confidence.) On the interesting leg 10, I got confused by an unmapped trail after contouring around, and dropped down way too soon, before the trail I was looking for. So today I was on the wrong side of the orienteers I compete against: George was a whopping 7-8 minutes faster, Rick D. about 3, Glen a little over 1. To be expected when you give away 10-11 minutes.

RED - Splits

Saturday Dec 4

Orienteering 1:17:52 [4]6.5 km (11:59 / km)
UNO meet at Sargeant Center, red course, with temp at 29. More mistakes than last week -- 7 minutes total, about half of it by doing something between a 90 and a 180 leaving #9 -- but still not bad overall. 8 minutes behind Tim P. -- I'm still not in his league -- but about the same ahead of Jim A., John H., and Deb H -- orienteers usually comparable with me.

Thursday Dec 2

Road Run (hills) 41:00 [3]4.9 mi (8:22 / mi)
3 hills: 3:33. 3:31, 3:30/

Wednesday Dec 1

Road Run 34:28 [3]4.1 mi (8:23 / mi)
UMass loop. Tired at first, then a little better.
