Orienteering 1:03:40 [4] 5.8 km (10:59 / km) +225m 9:12 / km
Day 2, classic distance, green. Another nice course, though perhaps lacking in interesting route choice legs. My hamstring hurt a lot worse than yesterday, and it no doubt cost me time on the long trail run (done at a jog), on some downhill runs where I couldn't stretch out, and in the blueberry where I often just walked. But my orienteering was good, spiking 9 of 11 controls, keeping good contact throughout. I had the magnifier on the map the entire time, and that really seems to help with checking off features as I go. The only errors were a stupid compass mistake heading from the trail to 8 (cost 2 minutes) and a long hesitation after I stopped short going to 10 (feature didn't look right, so I went south a bit to check my location betfore coming back and finding the flag, cost about a minute and a half). 3rd M50, but nearly six minutes off the best times by Jeff Saeger and Peter.

Event: West Point A-Meet

Orienteering 1:06:49 [4] 3.8 km (17:35 / km) +160m 14:32 / km
West Point A-meet, middle distance, green. Abysmal orienteering on a well-designed, challenging course. It was too wet to use my magnifier; but instead of slowing down or stopping to read detailed areas on the map, I let myself lose contact three times leading to huge losses of time on 1, 4, and 8: 25 minutes total. Some flags were "tucked away", but not, I suppose, unfairly: if you knew where you were (and read the clue), no problem; if you were hunting around in an area with many similar features, good luck.
Orienteering 19:28 [4] 2.5 km (7:47 / km) +60m 6:57 / km
Afternoon sprint, O-Br-Gr. A fun course, first half mostly woods, second half through the barracks. This went OK, about 50 seconds of mistakes, but what a difference two weeks makes. My latest injury, top of left hamstring, shortens my stride and makes my running much less fluid and efficient. I couldn't move any faster. Peter had the best time about 1:50 faster. I was third M50.

Middle Green X - Splits

Thursday May 1

machines 30:00 [3]
Ellliptical, after lifting. Didn't bother my hamstring, so I pushed the "hills".

Wednesday Apr 30

Trail Run 1:01:33 [2] 6.0 mi (10:14 / mi)
Atkins on the Frost. Gentle pace befitting an old man. Legs not good.

Tuesday Apr 29

dirt 38:44 [3] 4.7 mi (8:14 / mi)
From Smith gym, 6 laps around fields. No progress: left top of hamstring still sore and very tight. Have to keep my stride short so I worked on turnover and pushing off.
