Sunday Aug 28

Running in terrain warm up/down 23:00 [2]3.7 km (6:13 / km)
Jogging/running to the start, arriving exactly in the nick of time (maybe 5 seconds late). Got a minor beesting on the wrist about halfway through. Always good to get a flying start! :-)
Orienteering race 2:28:55 [3]*** 13.9 km (10:43 / km) +380m 9:26 / km
US Champs, Dutchman Flat. Screwed up #2 again, and was again sloppy here and there, though probably a bit better than yesterday. Still nothing to be very proud of, though. Nice views up top! And I really enjoyed both courses, despite how poorly I did.

In the aftermath of this, nothing hurts. One blister on a toe, and some general tiredness, but no muscle or joint pain, and the fatigue is a lot less than after a lot of other things. Maybe I wasn't pushing hard enough...

Blue - Splits

Saturday Aug 27

Shadowing 41:54 [1]2.4 km (17:27 / km) +35m 16:16 / km
Shadowed Stephen on White. He overshot #2, then after finding it made a major error in leaving, but when he figured out where he was, he took a very advanced route to get back on course. He later made a mistake leaving a control when he was distracted by another competitior.
Orienteering race 2:16:34 [3]**** 10.7 km (12:46 / km) +330m 11:03 / km
spiked:14/23c
US Champs, Dutchman Flat, Blue. Everything else pales in comparison to the preposterous error on #2, when I was supposed to climb 13 lines, but climbed about 28 instead, and relocated on a big clearing way up the hill. Still sloppy here and there after that, but at least I did reasonably well in the detailed lava piles at the end.

Friday Aug 26

Hiking 45:00 [1]3.5 km (12:51 / km) +213m 9:51 / km
Hiked down to the boat in Crater Lake and back up, with the Koehlers. Waded in the lake; might have jumped off the rock if I had thought to bring my bathing suit.

Thursday Aug 25

Orienteering race 1:01:06 [3]*** 6.92 km (8:50 / km)
spiked:13/20c
Lava Butte relay with Nancy Koehler and Rachel Koehler. A bit sloppy, and took it easy for the first part, but I wound up running with Kristin Ritzenthaler, trading a lead back and forth, and we also caught two other people. I managed to give them all the slip in the last loop.

Leg 3 (Green) - Splits

Wednesday Aug 24

Shadowing 28:24 [1]1.75 km (16:14 / km) +40m 14:34 / km
Shadowing Stephen Koehler on COCC White course. He spazzed and started to cry when he first turned the map over, not understanding the parking lots, but things got much better once he was in the woods.
Orienteering race 16:24 [4]*** 2.7 km (6:04 / km) +60m 5:28 / km
spiked:13/15c
COCC Sprint (Bend, OR). My best sprint point jackpot for the year.
Orienteering race 41:44 [3]*** 4.82 km (8:40 / km) +100m 7:51 / km
spiked:12/17c
Arnold Ice Cave, middle distance. Far from perfect, but good enough for 1st in M40. Actually grabbed the wrong map, and was confused when Jim Baker caught up in the butterfly. Until I realized I had grabbed the opposite fork, I thought he had caught up 4 minutes on me.

Sprint 1 (Long) - Splits

Red - Splits

Tuesday Aug 23

indoor gym equipment 6:22 [4]
Running on treadmill in the hotel weight room. I don't think I'd ever been on one before. I had it up to 16 mph(?), but at that point Nancy was yelling that I was going to fall off the back and crash.
