| 1000th LIFETIME ORIENTEERING COURSE!!
Boulder Dash, Beaver Brook, Red, sunny and cool. The first time I ever orienteered was December 19, 1978, at Beaver Brook in Hollis, NH. It's also where I punched my 10000th control in 2000, and now the site of my 1000th course, both by coincidence. The 1978 course was something like a several-hour score-O in groups of six students (high school PE class), with a teacher, although our escort left us and went to the finish to build a bonfire after a couple of controls when he was convinced that we were adequately competent. I don't have the map (USGS copy) from back then, although I do have the index card with 11 punches. The course might not have overlapped with today's course, because it's possible that we were on a different part of the property NW of Rte. 130. I'm considering making a list of the 10 highlights and low points from my first 1000 courses. | ||
