Orienteering race 1:43:51 [3] ***** 8.3 km (12:31 / km)
spiked:11/15c shoes: VJ Falcons #1

Blue course at Pawtuckaway. Pretty clean, not able to move too fast due to respiratory limitations (coughing a lot, stopping to cough several times). A few pretty minor errors near the controls, and one place where I lost time because although I knew where the beaver dam was, I had a heck of a time getting to it through a maze of ugly vegetation.

Course setting 2:56:45 [1] ***** 6.21 km (28:28 / km)
spiked:11/12c

Setting Night-O at Pawtuckaway, in a slightly different order than the course went (and with a mountain bike interlude added in to get to #11). Only one slight miss on one control, went up the worong hill and knew immediately that things didn't look right. Taking it very slowly and deliberately, and spent a bunch of time hanging the markers carefully and doublechecking all of the locations.

Canoe-O race 1:07:52 [3] **
spiked:14/14c

Pawtuckaway canoe-O, C! in Aims's J-200 (he went C-2 with Andy Hall, at my suggestion, because I wasn't feeling well). Lost a bit of time due to thet fact that several of the controls were very difficult to get at in a C-1 without getting out of the boat. Would have been better off points-wise to have skipped one of several controls, because although I would have lost 3 points for not getting the control, I probably could have saved the 8 minutes that cost me 8 points in OVT penalties. The last three controls I went to were worth getting, though, because each was worth more than the time I would have lost by skipping -- they were on the way back, anyway.

Note
(sick)

Still can't breathe! If this doesn't get better soon, I'm not going to be able to manage much at Pawtuckaway beyond setting up the Night-O. But I did stand in a long, hot shower and sneeze for a while, which is very satisfying therapy for this kind of ailment.

Note
(sick)

I had hoped I'd be all chipper today, but I had trouble breathing all night and woke up still feeling not very good. Still not certain what the problem is, but this seems wheezier than the typical cold, and as I drive down the road I can see that we've got a bumper crop of ragweed this year.

Unicycling 19:35 [3] 1.35 mi (14:30 / mi)

From home to the Brooks House for ConComm meeting, 8 stops (the last three due to unsuccessful attempts to negotiate curbs). Longest stretch without stopping wa 0.68 miles, from the big farmhouse to the end of Turkey Hill Rd.

Unicycling 23:13 [3] 1.35 mi (17:12 / mi)

From the Brooks House back home after the meeting. In The Dark (yes, with the hatlamp). Had a lot more trouble getting started than I did on the way out, maybe due to fatigue, maybe due to the fact that it was dark, maybe due to the fact that there were people watching me at the beginning. About five stops early on (all due to curbs and gates, I think), but then I managed a solid 0.8 miles from the Main St. crosswalk just about back to the big farmhouse, and then was able to get right back on and make it the rest of the way home (up the driveway, even). Night-unicycling, I wonder if I should have a separate training category for that. Gotta be about the best balance work I can manage.

The crappy seat is now hereby declared unacceptable, as I seem to have sustained a minor injury from it. I resolve to remove it, and not ride again until I get a suitable replacement.

Note
(sick)

Feeling somewhat better, probably due to having spent most of the day in bed. I'm optimistic that I'm on the upswing.

Note
(sick)

Allergies or cold or whatever it is much worse. Spent a large part of the day at an art museum, and had trouble staying on my feet. Later on I just crashed on a bench in the lobby for a while. Took some drugs when I got home which perked me up a little, but I'm still really beat.
