Pull-ups 1 [5]

Okay, I figured that the 13 yesterday just wasn't reflective of my capabilities, so today I really went for it. I put on my heaviest hiking boots, just for good measure, and did them on the doorframe like when I first started in January, fingertip-style. Being careful not to relax the muscles and dislocate my shoulders again, I just kept grinding them out until I had to stop because I was getting really hungry. For roast attack badger.

Tomorrow maybe I'll try climbing a beanstalk.

[edit] Okay, April Fool. Not really 57 pull-ups. Number now corrected. (For the sake of honesty, I really did put on the boots and do one fingertip pull-up in the doorway, just so I could let the training entry stay. And also did the 9 regular daily ones.]

Mystery Blazes loop, with a couple of variations. Explored a couple of pink ribbon bypass trails, one in Hickory Hills that gets around the worst of the mud, another that goes from the Mystery Blazes trailhead and loops back to the ruined wall junction. Then I just went through the woods up the hill to pick up the Mystery Blazes by the vernal pool, and took them to the Enigma road, then upstream to the crossing log and home.

AOWN report: a group of three deer were scooting around for a while in front of me presumably trying to flee, but repeatedly heading off in the direction I was going. Then I scared up a large bird (probably a turkey, but possibly a pheasant) that took off running, never spreading its wings. Pretty cool.

End of the month trial. The last one wasn't so bad, but then I rested, and in doing so, I let my shoulder muscles relax. Being kind of loose in the connective tissue department, that left me in a position that I couldn't easily get back from, and after a couple of attempts, I jusrt quit while I was ahead.

Willard Brook SE+. The plus comes in two parts: I went a smidge further at the north end, and went up a more pleasant trail to the power line. Then, in the bottom of the laurel hole, I took a left turn that wound me around on some twisty stuff through the green, then onto some bigger trails, and eventually back out to the power line. I figured I'd just head down to Old City Road from there, but apparently I crossed it without realizing, because I went quite a way on the power line (a particularly muddy section), and finally gave up and headed west on what turned out to be the Hansen trail. Beautiful blue-sky day, and although there was mud (snow is gone from all but the dark hollows), the bugs still won't be out for a while.

Note

Never really fell asleep last night, maybe just dozed off briefly a few times. Mostly just lay in bed, wondering why I was awake. Very unusual for me.

Bicycle rollers 34:28 [2]

Listened to Bitanga i Princeza on cassette, which I bought in Novi Sad in 1991, on the trip to the orienteering meet that didn't happen because they inadvertantly scheduled it opposite a war. There are some really great songs on there, it's a shame I can't understand any of the lyrics. The album is a little on the short side, which was fine, because I didn't overdo things and get my hands all numb. I broke my front derailleur cable on Tuesday, so I was stuck in the small ring, and this was therefore at a nice high cadence.

Watched the Ċ½eljko Bebek section of Disc 1 of the Bijelo Dugme Turneja 2005 DVD. Pretty cool. Those kids in the audience must have been pretty stoked. Afterwards I went out and sat on the deck for a few minutes with no shirt on. Nice warm evening, felt like summer (still 50 F outside after 11 PM). Came back in and noticed that the house smells faintly of burning rubber. I must have the roller on the trainer adjusted wrong, or need more tire pressure, or something.
