From Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD, to Arlington Ave., to 12th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. It's Spring Break for Max. While Peggy and I still need to work, for Max it's Wheel Day at his before/after care. He got his choice of bringing a remote control car, skateboard, scooter, or bicycle--he chose his bicycle. Since it's going to be a nice day, I wanted to ride too. Deciding to do that my only basic choice to get Max to school with his bicycle was was to let him ride it. We went slowly and walked across the busier intersections. He did pretty well though I rode holding onto his handlebars when going uphill to keep him steady and give him a hand. Though he was not exactly in full control all of the time, Max crashed only once, brushing a curb at low speed and sort of staying on his feet onto the grass as his bicycle went down. He gets distracted too easily, looses focus, and looses balance. While riding he was trying to tell me a rememberance that he thought was funny. I'd have liked to laugh along with him but was torn between trying to keep him from falling and letting him experience the joy of the freedom of riding. He must have been enjoying it because he took a moment to verbalize that this was his first day riding to school (on his own bike).

After getting Max to school I took off. I finally fixed-up my commuter bike so I was on it. I was surprised that I was moving pretty well. At one point I thought I might have had a tailwind but the winds were actually calm. I kept a good cadence going the whole way. My time was pretty quick considering that I rode 1.1 miles with Max for over 11:30 minutes.

Bicycling (Commute) 43:05 intensity: (10:00 @3) + (33:05 @4) 11.89 mi (3:37 / mi)

From 12th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. to Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD. I had a tailwind for a while and did some good spinning. After a detour at the flooding waterfront and the the traffic in Georgetown, I kept moving quickly. However I just as quickly got passed by 2 people. I didn't want to work too hard but I did keep up a good effort. Like earlier this month, I started running out of energy just before River Rd. The effect of the tailwind seemed to diminish long before at about Canal Rd. As I cruised into home trying to keep my average pace up, I saw Peggy and Max walking back from the park.
