Running (Trail) 18:23 [3] 2.6 mi (7:04 / mi) +80m 6:27 / mi
slept:8.0

In Rock Creek Park at the Washington, D.C./Maryland border, I did the Boundary Lines loop. The trail was muddy and it was humid in the upper 80's F. At the end of the run I talked with Peter Moynihan, a guy in his early 70's who looked like he was in his 50's and used to run ultra's with Dick Good--said he knew Tim. Weight 173.5.

Bicycling (Road) 1:10:38 [3] 22.24 mi (3:11 / mi)

From Woodmont Ave., Edgmoore Rd. to Glenbrook Rd. to Bradley Rd. to Falls Rd. to MacArthur Blvd. to Cabin John Pkwy. to MacArthurd Blvd. to Sangamore Rd. to the Little Falls Trail to the Capital Crescent Trail, to Woodmont Ave. My legs felt awful at first. I've been trying to figure out a comparable 20 mile route to make-up for the loss of the Beltsville Agricultral Research Center that was so convenient and nice when I lived in Bowie. This one is not bad but it's hillier and with more traffic. At Falls Rd., I hooked-in to a group of A or AA riders. I caught-up to them. Their pace was erratic (too easy, then flashy fast) but this early getting back into biking, mine is not well established yet either. I pulled on the Cabin John for a little too long (22-24mph) and as I crested a slight hill tired, they exploded doing 30mph and dropped me. Coming back up the CCT, I expected to ride faster than commuting w/o my commuting gear and on my road bike but was tired and only did so marginally.

Bicycling (Commute) 35:13 [3] 11.21 mi (3:08 / mi)
slept:5.5

From Woodmont Ave. in Bethesda, MD to C St. SW, Washington, D.C. I felt tired and sometimes was dogging it but this would have been quick not long ago. There were some slight headwinds along the river. Weight 174.5.

Bicycling (Commute) 40:11 [3] 11.11 mi (3:37 / mi)

From Independence Ave., SW, Washington, D.C. to Woodmont Ave., Bethesda, MD via Kennedy Ave., Glenbrook Rd. and Edgemoore Rd. I varied the route to verify the distance I ran yesterday. My legs were sore from that run and hurt when cycling over bumps. In D.C., the fencing around the WWII memorial has come down and pre-visitors were walking in. There were lots of tourists everywhere.

Running (Street & Trail) 55:42 [3] 7.95 mi (7:00 / mi)

"Home" from work today to successfully buy a house, I ran from our temporary apartment of the last two months at Woodmont Ave. and Edgemoore Rd. I did a variation of a route I call Little Falls Trail using Edgemoore Rd., Glenbrook Rd. and Kennedy Ave. It was about 73F with 66% humidity. I felt like all I could manage was a steady pace uphill or down. I climbed well. On downhills I felt heavy and plodding from the biking. The one mostly downgrade mile on the CCT that I could measure, I ran 6:53. At different times, my knees and achilles all gave warning signs because I haven't been running on pavement much, but they held together. I stretched afterward and think I need to do that more. Running after 7pm, I didn't see nor hear many Cicadas but found one hitching a ride on my shoulder for a way. Weight 174.

Weights (General) 1:00 [3]

30 pushups.

Bicycling (Commute) 33:43 [4] 11.21 mi (3:00 / mi)
slept:6.5

From Woodmont Ave. in Bethesda, MD to C St. SW Washington, D.C. I didn't intend to go fast but the humid 69 F temperature felt nice. On the downhill going 24mph, a chunky but muscled guy in yellow with legs twice my own circumference blew by. On the flat after Thompson Boathouse he was over 100m ahead. I kept at it and caught him doing 20-21mph. As soon as he noticed, he churned his huge legs. I hung on and we got up to 26mph before he turned off just before Georgetown. I pushed on and drafted a car under the Whitehurst freeway. Along the river I slowed with a slight headwind. Weight 176.5 - perhaps my own legs are getting some girth as the waist handles are diminished.

Bicycling (Commute) 36:11 [3] 10.48 mi (3:27 / mi)

From Independence Ave. SW, Washington, D.C. to Woodmont Ave., Bethesda, MD. I left work at 9:40pm and again had trouble with my light giving only a very dim light--it drains much quicker than it's supposed to when unused. I had a nice tailwind to Georgetown. It was humid but cool.

Bicycling (Commute) 33:19 [4] 11.22 mi (2:58 / mi)
slept:5.0

From Woodmont Ave. in Bethesda, MD to C St. SW, Washington, D.C. It was 75 F this morning. I traded pulls with an older gray haired guy on a Klein from Little Falls to Georgetown. He was tough. We averaged around 21.5 mph to Georgetown, then split. I pushed through some headwinds and traffic the rest of the way--another Monday morning PR this time by about 2 minutes. Weight 175.

Bicycling (Commute) 35:48 [3] 10.5 mi (3:25 / mi)

From Independence Ave. SW, Washington D.C. to Woodmont Ave. in Bethesda, MD. I tried to spin more again and got passed and pulled for a mile. It was in the low 80's and humid with the sound of Cicada's finally starting.

Running (Warm-up) 7:48 [2] 1.0 km (7:48 / km)
slept:7.75

Day 2 of HVO's Back to Harriman State Park on the Sebago Beach map. I jogged with Peggy from the New Sebago Beach parking along the lake to the start.

Orienteering (Competition) 1:41:44 [4] 7.37 km (13:48 / km) +260m 11:44 / km
spiked:9/12c

Day 2 of HVO's Back to Harriman A-Meet on the Sebago Beach map. I started better taking the safe route of a trail most of the way to #1. I missed slightly on #2, missed like most everyone else on #3, then really blew #4. The rest were okay but by then the damage was done. See the Split List. The blister and caluses on my toes hurt. In the last few meets, I've been running just so so but also making big errors on a control or two. I think it's because I've not been staying in close enough contact w/the map, then running ahead thinking that I'll be okay and able to relocate ahead. Sometimes it's worked and perhaps I've gotten lucky but usually it catches-up with me, often in a big parallel error.
