Running (Warm-up) 10:02 [3] 1.2 mi (8:22 / mi)

From Hemlock Overlook Regional Park in Fairfax County, VA, I warmed-up on the side of roads in and near the park. My right foot started out smarting me like yesterday but somewhere along the way it loosened-up and I felt no more pain. I did some fartlek coming back. Weight 169--eating too much lately.

Orienteering (Competition) 1:17:32 [4] 8.5 km (9:07 / km) +280m 7:50 / km

QOC: Hemlock Overlook Regional Park: Blue. I took off 4 minutes after Dave Pruden and 3 in front of Ted Good. Sloppy overruning #1, a poor route choice to #2 (saw Heidi O.) and again overruning #3, Ted was on my heels (running in tennis shoes) at #5. I lost him at #6 and caught Dave Pruden after #10. A good route choice (ridge/trail far to the right to and past the start area) on the long leg back to #12 made-up for some earlier blunders. I stopped to help a desparate novice locate on his map on the way to #13. I went to the clearing on #14, passing Heidi along the way and relocating at the fenced-in enclosure and ruin before cutting-in between the dark green. On #15, I came out to the road but cut back in too early; the contours in this area didn't appear correct so I spent more time figuring out that I should keep going on toward the catching road before it made sense. On #16, I went to the right down the road and in at the reentrant. I was hesitant crossing the fence, then the power lines. I couldn't make out a clearing but eventually went on enough to get to the spur it used to be on. Past the registration to the finish. I think I got third as Jon Torrance and Marek Filicko (by ten seconds) beat me. See the Split List.

Weights 1:00 [3]
slept:7.0

30 pushups. I woke up with my right foot hurting in a strange way from the side of my heel to below the ball. It hurt enough that I needed to limp and sit whenever I could. It was a busy day so despite the beautiful weather I decided skipping trying to run would make sense.

30 pushups. I wanted to run in the interesting weather but working late took care of that.

Orienteering (Course Setting) 1:41:12 [2] 5.05 km (20:02 / km)

Checking control sites in Greenbelt Park, MD for the January QOC meet. Vegetation was summer thick but I was out in shorts and running shoes only, picking my way around the thorns. There had been so much downfall from earlier storms that one would not want to rely upon mapped vegetation. It was cloudy and I had drawn all over the map making it difficult for me to get into a rhythm. Weight 165.5.

Running (Street & Trail) 1:33:34 [3] 12.35 mi (7:35 / mi) +200m 7:13 / mi
slept:5.0

From Carderock Park, C&O Canal Towpath to Great Falls, Angler's Inn Spur Trail to Falls Rd. to River Rd. to the Cabin John Trail (using the part south of river and west and east of Seven Locks) to Seven Locks Rd. to MacArthur Blvd. to 79th St. to the C&O Canal Towpath at Lock 8, to Carderock parking. I tried to keep a steady level of effort though I was conservative on the trails climbing. Going down trails on uneven footing I felt my ankle injury from the weekend but otherwise I felt fine. It was humid but not too hot. Mile times from the towpath: 6:58, 7:16 and the last mile was on pace for 6:45. See:
Potomac. Weight 164.5.
