Event: HVO A-Meet

Running warm up/down (Street & Trail) 4:00 [2] 0.6 km (6:40 / km)
slept:5.5 weight:179lbs

Harriman State Park, NY. From Camp Ma-Kee-Ya, warm-up jog to the start of the A-meet. I ate a late dinner which would account for part of the weight.

Orienteering (Foot) 1:15:00 [4] **** 6.6 km (11:22 / km) +270m 9:26 / km
spiked:11/15c

Harriman State Park, NY. HVO Surebridge Challenge. Running Red, I felt I navigated pretty well. I took the high road to #5 to avoid what seemed like a lot of rock on the low route. I was a bit more off on #11; reaching the trail but not knowing exactly where, I got too high. I had fun racing Jim Rayburn to the finish after #11 except that I flubbed #15. I stopped early before crossing the flat area.

I ran slowly this race and though tired in the middle, I wasn't tired at the end. That shouldn't be. I suppose going slower prevented some errors. It was a fun race.

Running (Street & Trail) 14:21 [3] 2.0 mi (7:10 / mi)
slept:6.5

After a flight back home in Bethesda, MD and after getting Max to bed, I did the Two Mile route at an easy pace. The weather was perfect and just about the first time in a week that it wasn't rather windy.

Running (Street & Trail) 39:34 [3] 5.2 mi (7:37 / mi)
slept:6.5

St. Paul, MN. From Montrose La., Hartford Ave. to Mississippi River Blvd. to the Ford Bridge, looping around Minnehaha Falls, trails to the trail head/sign just south of 54th St. East, then back to Montrose La., via the stairs and dirt trails in the Minnehaha Falls gorge. It was in the 60's F with a strong wind coming from the south. I was tempted to go on at the turnaround point but it was wiser not to. I've been looking for a way to connect a run on both sides of the river with the turnaround at Fort Snelling. I think it's achievable but I was too tired and with limited time. Perhaps another day whenever we return on better circumstances.

Calisthenics (General) 2:00 [3]
slept:4.5 weight:176.5lbs

45 situps after the flight to Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. I was tempted by the nice weather and guilt about not working out much, to go out for a run but by the time I got Max to sleep, I was too pooped.

Bicycling (Trainer) 30:00 [3]
slept:5.5 weight:177.5lbs

30 minutes on the trainer at home. Due to it being a travel day, I probably won't get much of a workout in on Wednesday.

Calisthenics (General) 2:00 [3]
slept:6.0

The day got away from me with working late and family matters. 45 situps. I've been eating much too much of Peggy's birthday cake.

Running (Babyjogger) 31:33 [3] 3.65 mi (8:39 / mi)
slept:6.25

From Rosedale Ave., Chelsea Ln. to Woodmont Ave., onto the NIH Trail, to Old Georgetown Rd. to W. Cedar Ln. to Rockville Pike, to Jones Bridge Rd., to Maryland Ave. to Rosedale Ave. After the torrential rains and Peggy's run, I got ready to go. Max got excited about coming along so into the Babbyjogger he went. I attached the bubble. It kept the wind and some sprinkles off him. I lumbered up some hills and felt like I was pushing a sail into the wind in some places. Despite Peggy's warning, I overdressed a bit--it felt better than underdressing would have. We had a small birthday celebration for Peggy afterward. I missed an opportunity to run at QOC's meet in Fran Uhler today but it would have been very soggy and cold there--I don't think Max would have been so enthused to hang around.
