| Hashing 2:30:00 [3] | ||
| Long hash sent by Kent from his house. Couldn't find flour for a while so we were all wondering around quite a bit. Out till dark.
This was the first day since the 1/2 that my calves didn't hurt just walking around. But they hurt a lot as soon as I started running. Stayed at an even level of pain though and didn't get worse. My legs feel really tired today even though I didn't run fast at all last night.
Wednesday Jun 28 | ||
| Note | ||
| Rick and I checked out (from the car) Webb Mt. park in Shelton for a possible hash site. They've just recently started allowing camping there for $5--would have been a great place when we had the Ansonia/Derby A meet but they didn't have camping then. Seems like a really nice park and I want to go run the trails soon. It's just south of the southern Paugusset, on the Housatonic. The CT blue-blazed trail, the Paugussset trail, winds through the park and would also be fun to run. | ||

| Running race (Roads) 1:56:25 [4] 13.1 mi (8:52 / mi) vdot: 37.8 | ||
| Ran the Fairfield 1/2 marathon. Weather was in the low 70's, very humid and overcast. Not bad relative to most years. Wasn't sure what to expect since I haven't done that kind of road running for a long time. Although I thought I'd be able to be under 2 hours easily but didn't turn out that way. I think I took it too easy on the first 3 miles, doing way slower than a 9 minute pace. Then kicked it up to mostly faster than 9 minute miles and felt amazingly good the whole way. Not excited by the time but was happy with the way I felt. | ||

| Event: CNYO Regaine | ||
Thursday Jun 22 | ||
| Hashing 1:35:00 [4] | ||
| Good, long, fast run set by Neil and John C, starting/finishing at John's house and going through Huntington. Very humid. B-day boy cooked up a great BBQ afterwards. | ||
Wednesday Jun 21 | ||
| Running warm up/down (Trail run) 1:00:00 [3] | ||
| Run at Huntington with Kathy, Abby and Donna. Did first loop by myself then second loop with group. | ||
Monday Jun 19 | ||
| Running long (Trail run) 2:00:00 [3] | ||
| Ran with Rick through the trails out back, thru Gallows Hill, to the school on rt 53 and back. Not sure if it's the heat or still recovering from the rogaine but we were seriously doggin' it. Had to walk most the uphills on the way back. | ||

| Finalized the Bethel sprint courses yesterday. Two sprints: 2.5 k and 3 k, so there's enough distance to get a decent workout. Also 2 beginner courses: 1.2 and 1.6 k. | ||
Thursday Jun 15 | ||

Wednesday Jun 14 | ||
| Running (Trail run) 34:00 [2] | ||
| Slow jog with Kathy, Kelley, Abby and Donna at Huntington. Didn't feel the effects of the rogaine but the pace was really slow with no hills. | ||

Sunday Jun 11 | ||
| Orienteering race (Rogaine) 10:30:00 [4] | ||
| Day 2 of NA rogaine champs.
Went fairly slow at night both because we're not that comfortable with night Oing and we ended up doing some tough ones in thick woods. After 604, we did 405, 506, then 804 and encountered the worst woods of the entire event. As we were coming back up fom 506, we ran into two teams (David and Nadim was one of them) who said they had trouble with 804 so we were extra cautious with it but had no problem. We later heard that the trail had been re-routed so people coming at it from the north had lots more trouble. Our entire route for the day was: 405, 506, 804, 406, 703,307,605,504, 803,408,407,602,402,302 We probably could have gotten a few more points if we had skipped the southern middle ones, 307 and 605, and gotten some to the west instead, 411, 704, 310. We hadn't planned that section carefully because we just weren't just if we'd even get there. Might be good to do some closer analysis next time.
Saturday Jun 10 | ||
| Event: North American Rogaine Championships | ||
| Orienteering race (Rogaine) 12:00:00 [4] | ||
| First day of North American Rogaine Champs at Allegany State Park in NY. Partnered with Rick again for the 24-hr coed masters division. 1st in that division with 1710 points but not sure how we fared overall (didn't look at the results). I thought this was a great event. The weather, at least during the day, was perfect, no bugs, accurate map, mostly open woods, and good course. It was hilly but we had done the 2000 rogaine and were prepared for it.
This was our best performance for any rogaine we've done--had fewer lost minutes due to errors and spent the least amount of rest time. Our plan was to do almost all of the east side by early Sunday morning and then do as much of the middle section and the ones along the road back to base camp on Sunday morning and we pretty much did that. We had planned to sleep for an our or two in the woods but it was just too cold. We put all our clothes on and couldn't stop for more than about 10 minutes without getting really cold. So we didn't sleep at all for our first time and it really wasn't a big deal. I don't think we were any more tired than when we got a few hours. We really only had two errors. The first was 401 and it turned out that lots of people had problems with it, some not finding it at all. The re-entrant was lower on the hill than shown on the map. We came at it from the west, from 702, and couldn't find it along the hill as it became steep. We relocated on the ride, again using the steep area, went in with a bearing and pace count and still couldn't find it. We were making our way lower on the hill when we saw Barb and Adam at the control. Probably lost 15-20 minutes. The second error was probably 10 minutes at 503. Coming off the trail after 301, I had tried to aim off to the north so we knew we'd have to turn right when we got to the stream. But my bearing must have been off or we weren't where I thought we were on the trail because we actually ended up just to the right of the control. We walked to the right for quite some time until Rick realized we had to be to the south of it. Walked back and found it very close to where we had come to the stream. I'm not sure how much rest time we took but we had two decent breaks by about midnight so I only logged 12 hours. Our route by about midnight was: 308,702,401,301,503,502,801,303,414,701,304,404,603,403,606,501,802,306,604,405
Thursday Jun 8 | ||
| Hashing 1:22:00 [3] | ||
| Good run around Bethel and Danbury, starting from ball fields just outside the schools complex. Set by Donna. | ||
Sunday Jun 4 | ||
| Event: WCOC Huntington meet | ||
| Orienteering 1:30:00 [2] | ||
| Pavlina's fun O meet at Huntington. Didn't have much energy after yesterday so I mostly walked. Couldn't find my mandatory grocery item so didn't qualify in the results. | ||
Saturday Jun 3 | ||
| Event: Ives Trail Run | ||
| Running long (Trail run) 4:45:00 [3] 15.0 mi (18:59 / mi) | ||
| Ives Trail run with Rick, Neil, John C., Dave H., and Bob Auer; Donna, Kathy and Dave W forming a slower group that made it halfway. Got through the first half with almost no rain. Had to stop periodically in the non-finalized sections to look for streamers and put more up for the groups coming behind us. Had lunch and listened to politicians and Ives music at Tarrywile, 1/2 way point, for over an hour while it was raining. By the time we were ready to go again, we were freezing. Went a little faster durng the second half, in pouring rain. Retired to John's for beer, hottub and lots of good food grilled up by Neil. | ||
Thursday Jun 1 | ||
| Hashing 1:30:00 [3] | ||
| John Stanley set a trail at Paine open space. Fun trail but got caught in a serious thunderstorm about 3/4 through the trail--lots of lightening, sky so dark we couldn't see much in the woods, etc. Made things quite interesting. | ||
