Orienteering race 1:05:50 [4] 6.2 km (10:37 / km) +190m 9:12 / km

Red course at Ansonia. Really nice course, taking us through the best parts of the map. Generally nice open woods and good weather. Pretty good run for me. A little low on 6, slow to 8 because I kept hesitating along the way to the trail, came in early on 9 and 10, and then a little trouble coming out of 10 trying to find the trail. So lots of little bobbles but I don't think anything cost me more than 30 seconds.

Orienteering race 49:50 [3] 3.9 km (12:47 / km)

Sprint/short course at Ansonia. Didn't have much energy after the red course so did a lot of walking and slow jogging. Was pretty confident about where I was for the one with the wrong clue description and went ahead and punched after 30 seconds of double-checkign. But then I saw Charlie coming toward and decided to wait for him to get a second opinion. He agreed immediately the flag was the one circled on the map so then I went on. Was off a bit on 12, losing less than a minute.

Blue Hills Traverse

Fun course with plenty of trail options to avoid some of the thick woods if we wanted (which I did). Had a few minutes error on 4 and 8 but not much with any others. My stomach was giving me trouble though and got worse as the race progressed. Walked most of the second half of the second map, especially the long leg to 23 (took the road). Since I didn't eat or probably drink enough, I didn't have much energy.

Day 2 of Batona 500, Green Y, Pakim Pond map

Same sort of terrain as Saturday but with lots more trail running options, making it a much faster course. Probably lost a good 3-4 minutes on 6--lots of hesitating to track trails as I made my way down to the road and then came in off the road at the trail just before the one I wanted. A pretty good run overall though.

Event: BATONA 500

Orienteering race 59:27 [4] *** 5.35 km (11:07 / km) +80m 10:20 / km
spiked:12/16c

Batona 500 Saturday Green Y course, Batsto map

Flat terrain, no rocks, lots of blueberry bushes. A nice course and fun map (except for the blueberries). Lots of trails but the subtle contours can make it tricky. Had at least 10 minutes of mistakes, probably less than a minute on 4, 6-7 on 5, a 2-3 on 11, and maybe 30 seconds on 15. Decent run the rest of the time.

Orienteering race 18:55 [5] 1.75 km (10:49 / km) +10m 10:31 / km

Sprint B at the Batona 500 on part of the Batsto map

Completely blew #10--didn't see the intersecting trail as I was going north on the trail out from 9. Lost a couple minutes there. Also lost a minute or 2 at 6, thrashing around in the green. I thought the control would be in the green and it was on the edge of the clearing. I enjoyed the course though.

Orienteering race 1:08:00 [3] 4.88 km (13:56 / km)

Green course at Sessions Woods. Wasn't too happy with my run--some bobbles during the first half and then really slow across the river and in the green to 9 and then green again along the river to 10. Nice course though.

Orienteering race 23:30 [3] 2.0 km (11:45 / km)

Sprint course at Sessions. No significant mistakes but didn't seem to be running fast.
