Orienteering long 6:00:00 [2]

Second part of CNYO rogaine.

Took a long (1 hour?) break at water stop 17 at around 2. Was doing okay with the night controls up until then but we were in a bad area to be doing night controls. Decided to try the relatively easy ones to finish the night (38, 71, 57), be at 15 at around 6 am and then do as many of the SW ones as possible to finish. Had some trouble with 38 (the trails didn't seem to be mapped correctly relative to the stream) then had tons of trouble with 71. Never ended up finding it. I suspect we would have had much better success in the daylight. Anyway, we decided we'd had enough and come back in at about 7 am. So we really got about all out points by 2 am.

In hindsight, it probably would have been better to tackle yellow barn in the night (maybe the NE and then yellow barn) because it wasn't that green, had shorter control distances, and better attackpoints. As often happens with rogaines, I was frustrated by the indefinite nature of some of the control placements, attackpoints that didn't seem to be mapped correctly, and the amount of green in the woods. But I know this is just the way rogaines are so maybe it's not the sport for me. If we do one again, we have to make sure we're in relatively easy areas at night and consider just sleeping for a few hours. If we're in shape for it, it may be more enjoyable to jog for some of it, which we didn't do at all this time, and rest more at night.
