Hiking 20:00 [1]
Went up to the geocache we planted in '02 with Donna and Steve in Mine Hill Preserve in Roxbury. We left the box under a rock near a mining tunnel that had cold air pouring out of it. Geocachers who had visited it had indicated it was wet and the log book was full. We had very little memory of the area and were surprised at how close it was to where we run for the Roxbury races. There were restored portions of the mine (furnaces) with interpetation markers that we didn't recall so I don't know if we just missed them or they are new. Had a little trouble finding our box. The nearby trail had been re-routed and I think someone had moved it a bit. But eventually found it along with a nearby letterbox. Added new logbook, pens, and trinkets. Had a good time reading through the old logbook which included some people who stumbled upon the box and knew nothing of geochaching. One guy left some rolling papers and the next guy, who also stumbled upon it, picked them up.
The whole area warrants further exploration and possibly a Saturday hash.
