Friday Sep 30

Note
back home in LA. the wildfires have covered the city in gray smoke (ok more so than normal), and my eyes are burning just typing this. I woke up snotrocketing black stuff.

photos from last weeks Northville-Lake Placid hike.

Tuesday Sep 27

road bike 2:25:00 [3]32.5 mi (4:27 / mi)
rollin around VT on daddyo's 40lb road star. There are more things wrong with the way this bike is made that I can count. technology has improved noticably since the 60's. I thought about doing him a favor and riding it into a ditch, but I figured all it would do is hurt the ditch. The best I could do is break a spoke coming up the driveway, but unfortunately I doubt that is fatal enough to justify an entire replacement bike.

Note
finished 5.5 days of backpacking the Northville-Lake Placid trail (120-some miles) with dad and the dog. super fun. my feet look sweet. check out dad's log for the full gory details.

Sunday Sep 18

Note
laoc travel town?

Saturday Sep 17

run 35:00 [3]4.5 mi (7:46 / mi)
in boston chasing bomfunk around the river from his apt to science museum to the harvard bridge.

Thursday Sep 15

soccer 1:00:00 [3]

Wednesday Sep 14

roller ski 1:01:18 [3]15.7 km (3:54 / km)
damp and cool this morning - down in the 50s.

5 laps of 3.14 km. getting good enough on these things that I can push pretty hard on the uphills. fear of road rash still keeps the downhill half of the loop a little slower.

uphill half: 6:30, 5:29, 5:14, 5:25, 5:23

Tuesday Sep 13

soccer 1:00:00 [3]

Sunday Sep 11

orienteering 3:50:00 [3]18.9 km (12:10 / km)
the mega course. I see controls. so many controls.

Saturday Sep 10

Event: 2005 Sprint Series Finals

orienteering 14:22 [4]2 km (7:11 / km)
first round. made a bunch of mistakes on 7-8-9, but was solidly ahead of my group after about 4.
orienteering 15:06 [5]2.11 km (7:09 / km)
our group of 4 was together almost the entire way, including a big group hesitation on #2. I was trailing Dave for most of it, but he was just a little off on the 2nd to last one and I snuck ahead for the win.
orienteering 19:42 [4]2.9 km (6:48 / km)
last round. I was pretty tired by this point, and the two Dave's always seemed a step ahead of me. I caught a couple breaks here and there, but they burned me on the sprint across the parking lot going into the last two.

An awsome day of races. I definitely vote for having the sprint series come back in some form or another next year. maybe I'll even get to more than one race...

Thursday Sep 8

soccer 1:00:00 [3]

Wednesday Sep 7

roller ski 57:00 [3]12.6 km (4:31 / km)
chilly this morning, down in the 50s. dragged Kevin out again, who missed the last few weeks because he was 'working' up in BC/alaska.
C • Baldy 3
run 40:12 [3]4.46 mi (9:00 / mi)
easy night run with Mikkel up the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena. got pretty dark after about 2 minutes...

Tuesday Sep 6

soccer 1:00:00 [3]

Monday Sep 5

Note
trail race up Mt Baldy - starts at 6k ft, ends at 10k...
run 1:53:00 [3]8.0 mi (14:08 / mi) +1300m 5:50 / km
a pretty fun time. well except for the part where the start is 4000ft below the finish, and the first thing you do is run 500' down. but after that it was about 4 miles on a fire road to the top of the ski lift, then another 3 or 4 up a single track trail to the summit. it was skinny enough that you couldn't pass at all, but by that point we were all going about the same speed (slow).

run 50:00 [3]4.0 mi (12:29 / mi)
so the funny part that they don't mention in the brochure is that when you're finished the race, you're still 8 miles from your car and on the summit of a 10,000 ft peak. only had to run down halfway though, then we got to take the chairlift. had the camera along in the camelback.

Sunday Sep 4

road bike 2:52:00 [3]49.2 mi (3:29 / mi)
rode out along the PCH past malibu to zuma pt. I'd been kinda scared to go out onto pch by myself, but today I found a pretty sizeable group so I just latched onto them and let them break traffic. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, about 10 miles out it opens up a lot and the shoulders are just fine.

It also occurred to me after I was already about 20 miles from home that this probably wasn't the best way to loosen up the day before a trail race straight up a mountain.

Saturday Sep 3

run 1:07:44 [3]7.4 mi (9:08 / mi)
palisades to the hub and back. not too bad out. a little hot, but I didn't get out until 10.

Thursday Sep 1

soccer 1:00:00 [3]
after some tricky negotiating (ok so I just convinced them I'm worthless for any problems that might come up), I got next weekend off. pawtuckaway here we come. anyone want to give me a ride from boston airport saturday morning?
