not that this really counted as running...

Sunday Jun 25

Note
a few random RAAM photos from when I managed to get out the camera, including a rare sighting of dad actually on the bike instead of under it.

Friday Jun 23

Note
Dad and I tried to drive home to VT last night, but the timing belt in the minivan broke, so now we're stuck in a motel in Jersey somewhere...
C • It made it across the country 3

Thursday Jun 22

Note
sleep. no really. thats all I did.
Note
So RAAM was a really fun race. Much thanks to all of our wonderful crew for force feeding us calories and putting up with us during the long cold grumpy nights. Also thanks for everyone that came out to visit us along the way. We may not have seemed very appreciative in our exhasted state, but seeing familiar faces in random parts of the country meant a lot.

West Virginia. The big climbs didn't seem too bad, since the grades were ok and it was 10000 feet lower than CO. Maybe the last week of training is paying off. Can't wait for the race to start...

Note
An easy ride over to the race start and back to get the bike inspected, then a few test rides while supermechanic eddie tried to figure out why the new chain was skipping. Apparently you need "teeth" on your chainrings...

Sunday Jun 11

Event: RAAM

road bike 32:00 [2]9.2 mi (3:29 / mi)
quick ride down to the beach and back to try out/tighten the new left crankarm, which I finally got yesterday. not trying to cut it close or anything. its a pain trying to find huge sized gear. why are the rest of you so tiny? off to San Diego we go...
road bike 1:10:00 [3]19.0 mi (3:40 / mi)
Easy ride with dad up the bike path from Oceanside to make sure all the pieces were still attached.

Saturday Jun 10

Event: LAOC Mt Pinos

road bike 1:36:00 [3]30.0 mi (3:11 / mi)

Sunday Jun 4

road bike 2:48:00 [2]45.0 mi (3:43 / mi)
easy ride with Chris from work. 10 miles to his house, then up through Silverlake to the LA River path, then back through griffith park to his house, then another 10 home. still hot today.

while we were on the river path, we passed a little kid (probably 5 or 6) pedaling along a tiny bike, being followed by his overweight dad - on a Segway. after thinking this was one of the more ridiculous things I've seen in a while, not 1/4 mile later we saw [presumably] his little sister, also pedaling a tiny bike, being followed by her mom, also on a Segway. I suppose at least the kids were getting exercise.

Saturday Jun 3

road bike 2:18:00 [4]46.3 mi (2:58 / mi)
out to Zuma and back. hot and windy. legs felt good.

Friday Jun 2

road bike 1:33:00 [3]30.0 mi (3:06 / mi)
first ride that felt good all week. there were roving clouds maybe 1/4 mile long of very dense fog rolling around the marina, and what was weird was that they were very well defined: if you were outside of them it was blue skies and sunny, and if you were in them you couldn't see 100m and should have had the lights on.

Thursday Jun 1

road bike 1:44:00 [3]32.0 mi (3:14 / mi)
legs still felt pretty sluggish today, and also noticed that my cadence would drift to about 10 below normal when I wasn't paying attention. not sure which one was causing which.
