Sunday Sep 30

hiking 2:00:00 [3]
Mt Conness (12,500) from Saddlebag Lake. Went up the Conness-White pass on the south side, which was pretty straight forward except for the snowcovered bits, then up the wide flat plateau (pic looking backwards) to the summit block. The last 300 feet or so was along a super dodgy knifeedge with some good drops on either side. It wasn't quite up to Zion's Angels Landing standards of dodgyness, but it was getting close. Came down the east ridge, which was better (more sun = less snow) than the way up.

all the photos. in a weird order since I was using two cameras, and they name things differently.

Saturday Sep 29

hiking 2:00:00 [3]
Started from Snow Flat in Yosemite, climbed Mt Hoffman (10,800), then traversed along the ridge to two other little unnamed summits, and finally to Tuolumne Peak (10800). Easy most of the way except for a dodgy class 4 section that I backed off of and dropped under. The full ridge view (from sunday): on the horizon - Hoffman on the left, plus the two sharkteeth going right, and Tuolumne is the big flat one.
C • That class 4 section looks ... 2

the third one felt as strong as the fifth, but I had stopped to drop a shirt just before and I forgot to restart the watch, so the time is a guess. also I kicked somebody really hard in soccer yesterday, so the top of my foot is black and blue. hurts a lot when I walk, but not so much while skiing.

orienteering race 39:00 [4]4.5 km (8:40 / km)
3rd leg Green at the Relay Champs in CT. Good course, didn't have much trouble with navigation, one hesitations after coming down a long blind crosshill in some thick stuff, and another where I just messed up a bearing, but everything else was pretty clean. Ran through a swarm of bees and got a few on the neck, which is nicely swollen and sore this morning.

Mt Baldy Trail Race - lovely little jog on a nice cool day.
Ok it was actually 90 degrees when I woke up (4:30am). Its been a nice pleasant 105 for the last couple days, except in my apartment, where its 115. Anyway I've been cameling water for a few days, and the run felt better this year than last, I managed to stay running for all of it except the last 1/2 mile (and its 1000 ft of climbing), and knocked a few minutes off the time. It seemed like there were fewer people this year, which helped on the narrow section traffic jams. Everybody was probably afraid of the afternoon thunderstorms that have dropped six inches of hail each of the last couple days (too bad it melts as soon as the clouds blow away).
C • Congrats 2
hiking 1:00:00 [2]4.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
slow hike/jog back down to the top of the ski lift. I sat down at the top for a while, so when I stood up the rotatey-bits of my hips had tightened up, which made going down kinda rough.

Saturday Sep 1

rollerblade 49:00 [2]16 km (3:04 / km)
