Mt Mallory (13850ft) and Mt Irvine (13770ft).
Climbed a side gully up Mallory, since the main route gully had been dropping washing machine sized boulders all night. A pretty straightforward mix of snow and scree, though at the top of the snowfield the suncups were deep enough to swallow me whole. An easy descent then climb up to Irvine, which had great views of the people train going up Whitney. Got into a dicey descent off of Irvine, since apparently the "easy drop down the snowfield" actually requires a snowfield, which wasn't there due to the crappy snow year. So I came down about 2k ft of loose rotten rock that would give Mt Jefferson a run for its money. About 8 hours of climbing total. In all a very cool trip, especially on 4 hours of advanced notice that we got the weekend off. Some of the pictures here.

oh yea the hike out. drop 4k feet in 4 miles with full pack. after the entire day climb. my knees hurt now.

Whitney Portal to Meysan Lake. Late in the day, didn't get done work until late friday, so got a late start driving Sat morning. Sunny and hot, though it got a little breezy when the sun started to go down and then just turned cold. It didn't freeze at the lake (11k) but up higher some of the streams iced over.

I've noticed that the speed-o-heart-o-meter seems to pick up funny heart beats sometimes, always around 220 bpm. for example today my max was 218, even though I'm pretty sure I never got above 170. also on friday it got a max of 222, which is notably odd since I didn't even bring the chest strap.

Sunday Jul 18

run 44:02 [3]4.1 mi (10:43 / mi) +200m 5:48 / km
temescal canyon loop

Saturday Jul 17

hike up Zuma canyon. no trail, veggies kinda thick in places. the bottom of the super steep canyon walls was ~20ft across and filled with car sized boulders, cattails, and fairly skunk ponds (lots of big fish too). managed to get through getting only one foot wet though.
run 1:15:00 [3]8 km (9:22 / km) +300m 7:54 / km
a short jog to get to the start of the canyon, plus the jog back along the fireroad once I got out. includes a 1000ft climb to get up to the ridgeline. it was about noon by this time and kinda hot.
Note
on an unrelated note, I got to leave work at 8:30 last night, and only had to go in for an hour today. this could be setting a whole new precedent for weekends...

Friday Jul 16

road bike 36:00 [3]10.0 mi (3:35 / mi)

Thursday Jul 15

soccer 1:00:00 [3]

Wednesday Jul 14

road bike 53:00 [3]15.5 mi (3:24 / mi)

Tuesday Jul 13

soccer 1:00:00 [3]
the smog was kinda thin today, which made it uber-hot outside

Sunday Jul 11

road bike 50:00 [3]15.0 mi (3:19 / mi)
morning ride to the beach and up the canyons a bit. two training days in a row, is this a new record?

Saturday Jul 10

run 17:00 [3]2.0 mi (8:30 / mi)
got home from work early tonight (as in midnight) so took a little jog around the block.

Tuesday Jul 6

soccer 1:00:00 [3]

Monday Jul 5

Note
so work hired three [fairly hot] massage therapists to come in today. it doesn't make up for the 100 hour weeks or the fact that our 4th of july 'holiday' meant we got most of sunday off, but its a start...
