| whats up now VT. your trails may be skiable on 4" of snow, but anything is skiable on 48". two storms last week left piles of snow from tahoe all the way down to LA. all the xc ski places have tons of snow but can't groom because their insurance policies won't let them open this early... |

| south fork trail to grinnell ridge. probably 6 hours. was planning on going higher, but the trail wasn't broken at all, and by lunchtime it was like snowshoeing in thigh deep mashed potatoes. still, can't complain. an hour and a half from the beach in LA, its october, and there was 4 feet of snow... |

| palisades to eagle rock, just before it got dark. clear and cool. there was the usual smog layer, but it only came up to about 1000ft. so once above that it you could see pretty far. could see all of Catalina island, plus a pretty good view of mt baldy. |

| local meet at Firestone. good course. last time I was here I never got out of the canyon bottom, which is thicket and poison oak. this was all up on the hilltops, which are open runnable fields with little groves of trees here and there. pretty steep though. |
