Sunday Jul 31

road bike 1:04:00 [3]17.6 mi (3:38 / mi)
Early afternoon start, but it was only about 85 today so not too bad. The bike behaved itself fairly well today, the wheels stayed round almost the entire time.
run 33:20 [3]4.2 mi (7:56 / mi)
ahr:161
Was planning on another hour on the bike ride, but I couldn't handle any more traffic. So I cut that short and went for a run afterwards. A little bit wobbly in the knees, but doable.

Saturday Jul 30

roller ski 1:15:10 [3]15.9 km (4:44 / km)
Still the greatest toys ever. I get the impression that people in LA have never seen a pair of roller skis before...
Went back out to santa fe dam, but brought the good poles this time. A very very big improvement. Felt really good and smooth for the first 30 mins, then got more sloppy as my ankles got tired. Caught the metal edge of the frame on the ground a few km from the end and wiped out pretty gloriously. The helmet saved the noggin, but I bent back all 8 fingers, have some quality road rash on my shoulder, and spent a few minutes picking gravel out of what used to be the skin on my knees.

Friday Jul 29

run 32:38 [3]4.2 mi (7:46 / mi)
ahr:161

Wednesday Jul 27

run 34:23 [3]4.2 mi (8:10 / mi)
ahr:159
so I switched from tylenol to advil a few days ago, and the ear pain disappeared almost right away. after getting all the finest medical advice (ie talking to the old people at work) the general consensus was that its probably my wisdom teeth causing problems, as those have been making themselves known in recent months anyway. I guess I should probably see what the dentist has to say.

Tuesday Jul 26

run 15:30 [3]2.0 mi (7:45 / mi)

Monday Jul 25

run 33:52 [3]4.2 mi (8:04 / mi)
ahr:160
the ear doesn't feel too much better, but it doens't feel too much worse. its just been medium crappy for about a week. but I'm getting antsy after working all day every day and not getting any exersize. so if I start training again it'll either go away or get a lot worse, but at least it'll be different...

Friday Jul 22

Note
my ear hurts again. grrr...

road bike 51:00 [3]14.75 mi (3:27 / mi)

Sunday Jul 17

hiking 2:00:00 [3]32 km (3:45 / km)
dayhike with dan in the San Gorgonio wilderness (an hour east of home). Did Charlton, little Charlton, Jepson, then San G. Had a sweet glissade down the north bowl of san G for a thousand feet or so. pics. 6 hours moving, 4500ft climb.

Saturday Jul 16

road bike 56:00 [3]14.5 mi (3:51 / mi)

Friday Jul 15

run 17:00 [3]2.0 mi (8:30 / mi)
feeling quite a bit better by now. ear doesn't hurt anymore, although its still plugged up most of the time. even the short run seems to loosen it up a bit.

Wednesday Jul 13

road bike 55:00 [3]14.0 mi (3:54 / mi)
felt pretty good this morning, so I decided to try a ride. went ok, although the bike felt a little wobbly. not sure if its because I've been riding only the mountain bike lately (to work), or if something is busted on the road bike. probably related to the plugged ears. same reason I've been walking into doors all week...

Tuesday Jul 12

run 17:30 [3]2.0 mi (8:44 / mi)
needed to do something at least, had too much energy after work. the ear is quite a bit better, doesn't hurt too much anymore, though I still can't hear.

Sunday Jul 10

Note
mmm rapid release tylenol...

Saturday Jul 9

Note
had that dull pain in the ear (from two mondays ago) come back, then finally turn into an all out infection. bad enough that I ditched work and went to the doctor yesterday. he hooked me up with some amoxicillin and prescription sleeping socks.

Monday Jul 4

hiking 1:00:00 [1]5.0 mi (11:59 / mi)
back out to the car. with a heavy dosage of marmots. not quite as wet and muddy in the bottom of the canyon as on the way in, probably because it was morning and things weren't melting yet.
hiking 1:00:00 [3]8.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
Dayhiked up to Upper Yosemite falls, which was in good shape from all the snowmelt. The trail leaves the bottom of the valley and climbs to the rim, about 2500', in 3 miles. Good views. Awesome pictures from this and the climb to come later.

Sunday Jul 3

hiking 2:00:00 [3]5.0 mi (24:00 / mi)
Climbed up Mt Lyell (13,100') from the north east side. Gorgeous day. Up some snowfields around the base of the Maclure glacier, then climbed the Lyell glacier and up the [pretty steep] summit headwall. Came down a nice loose rock gully, which dumped into a less steep snow chute. Snow was in awesome shape, no crevasses at all, and it stayed pretty solid for the entire morning (didn't even need a pre-dawn start).
hiking 1:00:00 [1]4.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
Moved camp back down the canyon, to make the hike out monday easier. Couldn't go all the way out, since they don't allow random camping in yosemite, and you needed to get reservations a couple months ago for this weekend. It froze overnight both nights, a good contrast to the 80° days.

Saturday Jul 2

hiking 2:00:00 [2]10.0 mi (11:59 / mi)
found Dan at the airport friday night, then drove up here saturday morning. hiked into Lyell canyon in northern Yosemite about 10 miles. lots of snowmelt made the river and side streams huge. it was all almost completely flat, except for the last mile or two when we left the trail and climbed about 1000 ft. made camp on some open rocks just below the snowfields.

Friday Jul 1

Note
been working far too much this week and last. legend has it that dan might be flying down today from wherever he is, so there might be climbing this weekend if we ever get this build out the door at work.
