| did the normal loop down to the beach and up to sunset, then went up mandivalle canyon to the end. finally found a road without traffic. its a dead end, but its about 5 miles long, all uphill, and the pavement is pretty nice. coming down is a trip, you can hold 30 the whole time without trying too hard. |

| from the head of santa ynez canyon, up through the neighborhood to the palisades, along the ridge past the hub, then down and out the bottom of the canyon to the car. maybe 2000' of climb total. miserably hot, it was about 85 when I left at 8am, which wouldn't really be too bad if there was even a slight breeze or any shade at all. not even the smog was blocking out the sun today. my only consolation was that the huge group of people I saw out in jeans must have been even more miserable... |

Apparently this is the latest area in debate between the public access hippies and the filthy rich. Which is somewhat funny since the entire community is built on top of a buried trash dump... |

| a few laps around San Vicente blvd. It has a nice easy 1.5k hill to it; climbing that actually feels more like skiing than the flat stuff, maybe because its just a little more resistance than flat rolling. |

| driving home last night (this morning) I saw a tractor trailer burning on the side of the road up in the mountains above grapevine. while this is somewhat normal around here, this one the fire had gotten past the cab and had the entire back trailer engulfed in a giant fireball, all that was left was the metal skeleton. It was on the other side of the road, and the flames were blowing across the median (~100ft) and onto the first couple lanes of my side. a good sized brush fire was going on both sides of the road. |

| up in tahoe for cousin bobby's wedding. ran with dad up the ski trails (royal gorge xc) behind the lodge to a nice open ridge, then over to the summit of Mt Disney. |

| early morning ski down on the beach. perfectly flat and a little sandy, but ok. the concrete was harder than santa fe, so even the good poles were skipping a lot. met up with Kevin, the other guy that skis in LA. he lives close by, so we'll probably be able to get some regular morning workouts in. |
