Sunday Aug 27

orienteering 15:30 [2]
training at Vasquez with Clare and Bruce. started with a blank sheet of paper with north lines and the course, then hand-copied only the features needed to navigate. Then traded maps (I got Clare's) and ran it. Time doesn't include copying.
orienteering 32:00 [2]
same idea but a longer course through a bit of the rocky terrain. on my own map this time.

Saturday Aug 26

road bike 3:06:00 [2]46.0 mi (4:03 / mi)
easy ride with Chris from work. 10 miles to his house, then a loop up through Glendale and Griffith park, then home. pretty good speed the whole time, except for the 1200 ft climb up Mt Hollywood, which pretty much wiped out Chris.

Thursday Aug 24

rollerblade 1:01:00 [2]16.0 mi (3:48 / mi)
pretty crappy workout. was feeling really tired, then one of my front wheels delaminated and fell off. the other side isn't too far behind either. Fortunately I had the wrench in my pocket, and they work fine if you move the empty wheel to a middle spot. These were the new ones I got a few weeks ago too. Either the wheels are really crappy (I got them at the local quickie-sport), or they are too soft for the stress I put on them (I'm just big boned). probably both. There were still some good wheels in the old set (they were a lot harder) so I can just swap out the two fronts.
soccer 1:00:00 [3]
two guys hit going up for a header and one of them ended up with a split about half the length of his forehead. much blood and a trip to the hospital.

Wednesday Aug 23

road bike 1:47:00 [2]30.1 mi (3:34 / mi)

Tuesday Aug 22

roller ski 1:10:15 [4]19.6 km (3:35 / km)
on fire this morning. three of them well under 5, include a left handed lap:
5:40, 4:53, 4:49 (L), 4:48, 5:29 (L), 5:27
C • roller ski 2
soccer 1:00:00 [3]

Monday Aug 21

rollerblade 54:00 [3]16 km (3:22 / km)

Sunday Aug 20

run 1:50:00 [2]10.0 mi (10:59 / mi)
slow run up above the palisades ridge. parked at the head of the canyon, ran up through the neighborhood to the other fire road, then up to the ridge, up along it to the crest over Topanga, then back down Santa Ynez canyon. on the uphills (ie. the entire first 5 miles) I had a swedish ski-o map that I was trying to read and plot random routes. it was printed at about 1:30000, so my brain hurt after about an hour. or maybe that was the sun.

Saturday Aug 19

road bike 1:37:45 [3]30.1 mi (3:14 / mi)
felt really good this morning. must have been the steak and kidney pie for dinner last night...
C • Now that's a gross preworkout ... 2

Friday Aug 18

roller ski 1:03:00 [3]14 km (4:30 / km)
wandering around the streets near Amalfi, trying to find a way to string together a good loop. There are some steep hills that are good going up, but fairly terrifying going down, so those need to be worked in in the right order.
C • Amalfi? 2

Thursday Aug 17

rollerblade 1:51:00 [2]32 km (3:28 / km)
soccer 1:00:00 [3]

Wednesday Aug 16

road bike 1:44:30 [3]30.0 mi (3:29 / mi)
legs felt pretty tired this morning.

Tuesday Aug 15

roller ski 1:29:15 [4]25.7 km (3:28 / km)
felt really good this morning. not too fast, but I could have gone another few laps.
5:30, 5:26, 5:32 (L), 5:12, 5:18 (L), 5:22, 5:17 (L), 5:20
soccer 1:00:00 [3]

Monday Aug 14

rollerblade 1:03:00 [2]16 km (3:56 / km)

Sunday Aug 13

orienteering race 1:11:00 [3]5 km (14:12 / km) +300m 10:55 / km
Red course at Tahquitz. Half was good, half was on a part of the map that had never gotten fieldchecked, and I found some 10m deep gullies on the flat hillside I was trying to contour. That part didn't go so well.
orienteering race 36:30 [3]3.6 km (10:08 / km)
orange course. it stayed on the more field checked part of the map, so at least half the features were there this time.
run 20:00 [2]1 km (20:00 / km)
control pickup.

Saturday Aug 12

Note
(rest day)
rest day, too many things hurt after last week. got new a new set of rollerblade wheels, since one of my old ones got some glass wedged in it and split all the way through. was making some neat noises.

Friday Aug 11

road bike 1:43:45 [3]30.0 mi (3:27 / mi)
Forgot to mention one more thing to add to the list of broken bike parts: my left shoe. The plastic sole (not the metal shank) is snapped on the inside between the arch and one of the cleat holes. This one I'm gonna blame squarely on the airline flying home, as they were fine when I finished raam, and I didn't touch them in the six weeks after that. And I think I had them crammed along the outside of my checked bag. Anyway its still useable, I've been riding with it all week, it just flexes a bit now. Kindof a shame though, as they were probably 12 years old and had molded to the exact shape of my feet to be really comfortable.

Oh yea and I almost got hit by a box of roofing nails that bounced off a truck today.
C • Hey! Save the nails. I need t... 2

Sunday Aug 6

road bike 1:43:00 [3]30.1 mi (3:25 / mi)
run 46:00 [3]4.2 mi (10:56 / mi)
spent two hours mapping lower Temescal Canyon, which is open park-o sort of terrain. except that its steep downhill and is split by a six lane road. so probably not so useable even for a sprint, but it'll make a sweet CF map. Then took a run up the upper canyon to the ridgeline.

Saturday Aug 5

roller ski 1:32:00 [4]26 km (3:32 / km)
6:02, 5:21, 5:21, 5:24, 5:20, 5:35, 5:42, 5:40
