hiking 2:00:00 [3]12.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
Climbed Hengst Pk and White Chief Pk out of Mineral King in Sequoia. its winter! the sunny sides were still bare, but the north sides of everything had a few inches of snow, and below the vertical north faces it had already drifted to a few feet. Managed to walk around most of it, but I had to climb a few hundred feet up the shady side of a pass that had all the rocks covered (and slick). Came down White Chief canyon, which has more exposed vertical mine shafts than you can count.

red course at Topanga. not so fun. the map is normally just green with trails, so the courses end up being trail runs. but there were a couple misplaced controls (in a row) in badly mapped sections that really took any fun out of it. and I got covered in poision oak. we'll see how that turns out later this week.
run 47:00 [3]4.4 mi (10:40 / mi)
Greg's yearly hill run, as a stand-in for Dad's daily hill run.
picked up dad on his 12 hour layover at LAX while flying through to Austrailia for the world rogaine champs. ran the Temescal canyon loop in its full dusty glory.

rollerblade 1:02:00 [3]16 km (3:52 / km)

Monday Oct 2

run 37:02 [3]4.1 mi (9:02 / mi)

Sunday Oct 1

hiking 2:00:00 [3]19 km (6:19 / km)
Hiked Quail Mt in Joshua tree with Jack from school. All off trail, went across the desert floor for a while, then up a ridge to Quail. Came down across a few more ridges to the Johnnie Lang mine, which was just a disappointing set of holes in the ground. Then out Johnnie Lang canyon, which was a mess of huge boulders and cactus. Then back across the desert to the car. About 5 hours.
hiking 1:00:00 [3]8 km (7:30 / km)
Hiked Bernard Pk and Little Berdoo Pk from the end of a really sketchy sandy dirt road just before it got dark. The signs that said "4wd recommended" weren't kidding. I had the snow chains just in case it got too bad... Two hours rt.
maps and a pic or two.
