after work.

Tuesday Jul 29

run (track workout) 8:00 [5]2.4 km (3:20 / km)
for some strange reason I felt pretty good this morning (may a week of swamp slime is good for you?), so I not only did 6 laps, but cut the rest down to a 100.
400s: 78, 81, 80, 81, 85, 84
stairs 10:00 [4]
10 laps
run 43:00 [3]4.9 mi (8:46 / mi)

Note
CO and O-Ringen photos
soccer 1:00:00 [3]
had a 5.4 earthquake a few miles away just before I headed out. that was fun from the 18th floor.

Sunday Jul 27

run 35:00 [3]4.3 mi (8:07 / mi)
back home in the ghetto - a run through the hospital to loosen up the legs after all the travelling. and because I kinda missed traffic.

Saturday Jul 26

run 35:00 [3]4.0 mi (8:44 / mi)
Quick run with Kat, Ross and Sam around the park outside Boris's apartment. Also lots of assorted walking, buses and trains today.

Friday Jul 25

orienteering 2:09:00 [3]8.8 km (14:40 / km)
O-Ringen day 5. Bleh. Down in the swamps, on a 1:15 map, with blowdown and crap all over the ground. And I started at 2pm, so it was already a zillion degrees. A pretty miserable day. Made lots of mistakes, and ended up walking a lot of the course - I was tired and it took a lot of effort to run in the marshy springy-mattress ground cover. In general, not a fun day.

Thursday Jul 24

orienteering 50:00 [3]6.2 km (8:04 / km)
O-Ringen day 3. The fun day. This was my kind of terrain - we took the chairlift up to the top of the mountain, and almost the entire map was open tundra with some low scrub here and there, mostly contour features. Made a few small mistakes, but never anything where I was ever 'lost', I'd just immediately figure out I wasn't where I thought I was, but know where I actually was and correct it. I wouldn't exactly call it a clean run, but its about as good as I get these days =)

Wednesday Jul 23

orienteering 1:37:00 [3]8.4 km (11:33 / km)
O-Ringen day 3. The first few legs went straight uphill, which was cool because we got above treeline for a few controls, but was not cool because we were running uphill. The downhill legs after that went good, I nailed a 1km sidehill contour leg on a fairly blank hillside which made me pretty happy. Then had a forced road crossing (for all courses) with some very technical terrain on both sides, and lots of people too. Messed up both of those for a few minutes and a lot of tired, then had a few more uphill legs to finish off the course that were just painful.

Tuesday Jul 22

orienteering 51:00 [3]4.1 km (12:26 / km)
O-Ringen day 2. Short race, it went pretty good for most of it. I completly bombed one control though, had to bail out and relocate, and even that didn't work. Maybe lost 8 mins on it.

Monday Jul 21

Event: Oringen 2008

Note
Travel day. The planes worked out ok after all (after a bit of hassle), then two trains up to Malung, then a bus to Salen, then a 10k walk up a gigantic hill because the O-Ringen organizers forgot to say that "O-Ringen Salen" wasn't actually in Salen, but in the next town up the hill. Then a few more busses and some more walking to find the team USA cabins at about 10pm.

Sunday Jul 20

Note
yea travelling. Just had a flight from Montrose, mooching the free internet in Denver right now. On to Chicago next, then Stockholm, then a train/bus adventure to Salen.
Note
hey look they just canceled my flight to chicago. yea!

Saturday Jul 19

Note
In Telluride for Amy's wedding. Almost didn't make it since on the bus to the airport in LA this morning there was a 7-8 car pileup that happened right in front of us that shut down the highway for an hour. Nobody could get by, and traffic piled up behind us so we couldn't turn around and exit. Got to the airport 35 minutes before the plane left, cut to the front of security (with my gigantic backpack I was going to check but instead took as carryon) and made the gate with a solid minute to spare. Great wedding too.
C • Congrats to Amy! 1
