Note
(sick)
The sore throat spread to my lungs, and I'm coughing, and it hurts. Headed out to the conditioning class anyway, and stopped by Salvation Army first to drop off a load of stuff. By the time that was over, the cold air was searing my lungs, even through the scarf, and it really hurt. So I came home instead. Looks like the first of a few rest days.

On the positive side:
  • I just found out there's a vaccine against pneumonia, and it's supposed to work well.
  • Snow is in the air!
  • Peg Davis says I can stay with her in February, and use her bike!
C • rest 5

Friday Jan 26

Stair climbing 2:00 [3]
Strength 45:00 [2]
Yoga 50:00 [1]
Bicycling 18:00 [1]
Work commute, plus trip to the doctor for her to tell me I don't have strep throat. Seemed like I was heading into the wind the whole time. Windchill below 0.

Thursday Jan 25

Yoga 50:00 [1]
weight:133lbs
Might have strep throat.
Bicycling 40:00 [2]
Work commute, plus home to get David's homework, to school to drop it off, to orthodontist to learn that Isabel needs braces for $1600, then back to work. Started using the double-layer windproof mittens today, though I ended up using just the fleece first layer on my right hand so I could actually brake.
Note
Last night I was telling the kids that I feel like I've made some friends on AttackPoint. David said, "I wonder if they think you're a training monster & excellent orienteer, or if they know you're an old hag." I think my revenge will be getting braces for him too, as soon as possible.
C • monster, orienteer, or hag? 4

Monday Jan 22

Running 28:00 [1]
Woke up around 4, went running at 4:30.
It's been an interesting first week since stating my training goals. I feel good about doing *something* every day, and about getting more serious on strength and flexibility. I didn't run as much as I'd imagined. And I did not meet my sleeping and eating goals. The experience brought to the fore a bunch of issues I am grappling with, all of which are humbling, and which include dealing with The Change, how I interact with my kids, work...
Ah well, I'm going to take it one week at a time. This week I want to keep up with the hour a day, and add a focus on sleep schedule, and what I eat and drink.
Yoga 50:00 [1]
Bicycling 8:00 [1]
Running 21:00 [2]
While David was at his appointment. Was not into it.
DDR 10:00 [2]
Today's viral marketing report: 2 new unsuspecting humans lured into trying StepMania. Best day so far was Saturday: 9 people.
Note
As it is his birthday today, I will post some photos of my friend and sometime rogaine partner, John. I love doing rogaines with John. He's steady, easy, funny. My main complaint about him is that sometimes he follows too closely behind me and then complains when he gets whapped with the branches. I must have a magnetic personality.

Dave and John in Nahant

2006 Big Muddy rogaine. Note the inviting terrain in the background. No snakes.

After some event. At some brewery.

Camping with Orlyn and Jan.

Now here's an improbable photo.

Sunday Jan 21

Running 23:30 [2]
Pre-dawn run for groceries. 15 lb pack on the way back. Cold wind.
Had a bonified senior moment related to store layout.
Knees hurt last night - probably from all the squats and lunges in the conditioning class.
