Note
Sleepless in Seattle. (1) What can I say? I'm a girl.
Running 3:00 [1]
From the car to the restaurant and back.
My strategy appears to be to put on as much portable energy as possible for the marathon.

Yesterday our Lego robot team participated in the tournament. The orange and white hats have come in remarkably useful ever since we made them for Bus Stop O.

Last-minute adjustments to the energy audit presentation.

Conferring with the ref about the points he's awarding them at the end of a match.

The kids gave a presentation to judges about proposals to lower consumption and use renewable energy at their school.

The team went before technical judges who quizzed them on the engineering and software design of their robot.

Dancing to the loud classic rock music while watching other teams compete.

The team.

Bicycling 30:00 [1]
Really cold.
To school for a junior high parent meeting, then work, then (later today) home. Some walking in there, to accompany Jen who was walking from school to the T. She told me about their plans to visit her can't-talk-about-politics-with-them parents for Christmas, and the hospital closing down her youth counseling clinic to save costs.
At the parent meeting I learned that there are 56 kids on the wait list to get into our school's 6th, 7th or 8th grade. In contrast, there are 5 kids on wait lists to get into any other middle school in the city. Guess people must have heard about the orienteering at Graham and Parks. Just kidding.

Here is the poem David wrote for homework last night:

They ask me to write down my race
And I think very seriously
And consider writing down the truth
And have my answer read,

I like to draw.
I cast my pencil over the paper, creating images that I have in my head.
I like to watch animations,
I like to make them as well.
I like to compose songs,
Complicated ones that sound really cool.
I like to do well in school.
I like it when my teachers look at me, smile, and tell me I got a
"100" on the test.

I have a half-brother who I just like to think of as a normal brother.
I have an irreplaceable sister.
I have a step-mother who treats me and loves me like I'm her biological son.
I have a wonderful kind-hearted Beatles fan father.
I have a step dad who magically is able to keep track of every single
object in the house,
I have an awake-at-4am Dunkin' Donuts Iced coffee mother who is always
looking for a new active project to do with my school.
I have a grandfather who is really good at acting like he doesn't care.
I have a grandmother who taught English in about 5 different countries.
I have a grandmother who cares about a lot of people.
I have an aunt who is really nice to me.
I have an uncle who gets along extremely well with my dad.
I have a little cousin at the age of 6 who looks up to me and respects
me as if he's a soldier and I'm his general.

There's a lot more to me than what meets the eye,

But I stop
And simply write down

Tuesday Dec 4

Running 1:30:00 [1]
Looked up "Margaret's" address and jogged over there but didn't knock on the door cause the lights were still out. Pretty neighborhood! Wandering around, I found the nicest-looking glass house I've ever seen, on the corner of Lynwood. The walls have a Japanese paper house look, which I think is what makes it so attractive, and in the dark a glow was coming from inside. Do you like it? There are some hilarious outsized Christmas tree ball ornaments bouncing around on the tree outside 4413 - has Max seen them? I think you should make friends with the family a few blocks south of you (on Harling), because they have a fun-looking play structure in their yard.
I wore the trail-running shoes I was going to wear for the O-marathon but my feet hurt after a while. Maybe inserts would help. Went at marathon pace (Really Slow). It started to snow at the very end.
Still have that lingering sore throat and a little congestion.

Note
Stayed up way too late watching TeeVee. The Ravens' black leggings had a disconcertingly orienteering-like look to them. Very exciting finish to the game, but I thought Brady & his buddies were holding back until the last minute on purpose. Seemed like a lot of opportunities were let go by.

Running 20:00 [1]
jogged & walked with backpack from home to work and then from Medical Metro stop to the hotel on Pook's Hill Road.

Note
OK, so far at this meeting I avoided dessert at lunch, only ate half the sandwich, and passed on the brownie for mid-afternoon snack. We'll see how it goes at cocktail hour & dinner...
... Had caffeine & dessert but no vino!

Sunday Dec 2

Orienteering race 3:14:00 [3]
Fun! I thought it was a good course, especially in terms of taking advantage of nice-to-run-in terrain. Temperature just below freezing.
C • Nice run! 2
Note
Heading to DC tomorrow morning for a couple days of meetings. Bethesda Marriott. Hoping to go running tomorrow evening, maybe Tues morning, and avoid eating too much and drinking too much caffeine and vino like I usually do at these things...
