Note

Happy to see Ethan's article in ONA about one approach Navigation Games has developed for teaching orienteering to children in a fun way. I like his writing. I like how strongly he makes the point that having fun is the #1 goal - you want kids to associate orienteering with fun. And I like the fact that this approach introduces various elements of orienteering in a different order than normally done. Often we start with explaining the map. But here, with young chidren, all of the following are introduced before even looking at the map:

  1. Finding controls

  2. Running around in terrain

  3. E-punching

  4. Seeing how much time it takes you to find controls

  5. Checking control codes

  6. Looking for controls in a specific order

  7. And of course, having fun

PT 45:00 [3]

Morning workout with Emily.

Sunday evening Steve Tarry and Betsy Giese visited me and Dave. It was super nice to spend time with them, and get to know them a little better.
Betsy went over some of my proposals about presenting the 2016 financials, and answered questions. It was super useful. And reassuring.

I don't think the people we've paid to review OUSA finances have done a 100% bang-up excellent job.

Last night I spent a few more hours making some changes to my version of the 2016 financial reports using Robin's updated numbers and Betsy's suggestions. Then I sent them to the Finance Committee. I'd really like to get a green light to walk through with Robin the changes that we need to make in the accounting and reporting.

I also spent some time pulling together ideas for the 50th Anniversary Fund from the many conversations we've had over the past few months, and sent them to Peter Goodwin. Hopefully other people are also doing the same.

Orienteering 40:00 [2]

Hanging controls this morning at Edmands Park for a team training this afternoon.

Orienteering 50:00 [2]

Hung controls for today's training. We had 5 kids + Ethan.

Ethan is now training for realz bc I'm supporting him going to Arizona for the training camp, both as athlete and as coach of Keegan, and to help in any way that Erin needs. So - feel free to bug him to start training more. I told him he had to train if he's going to AZ.

Today Ethan designed 3 courses for the more advanced kids. He did the first one walking, second one jogging, and third one at speed. I can't wait to get the details of how the kids did.

The less experienced team members did our now-classic attackpoint exercise.

Note

Today I emailed siggerudk@gao.gov, minnellit@gao.gov, congrel@gao.gov
Subject: Audit for President Trump's financial concerns

Dear Ms. Siggerud and Mr. Minnelli,
I’m writing in support of Senator Elizabeth Warren's request for an audit of President Trump's finances, to prohibit conflicts of interest that would prevent him from carrying out the responsibilities of the office without corrupt influence.
Sincerely,
Barb

UPDATE: Got this back:
Thank you for your message. If it concerns the request that the Government Accountability Office received from Senator Warren and Congressman Cummings regarding the presidential transition, GAO has already accepted this request in accordance with our established procedures for working with the Congress. We will conduct the work in the same non-partisan, fact-based approach we take with all Congressional requests

Further update: EWarran saying that she wasn't encouraging us to make this request in the first place - check with her before taking action like that...

Also I did a bunch of NEOC scheduling...
