Walking 45:00 [1]

To work. I don't normally walk to work, and when I do, I don't normally do it mid-day. It was a good time to make a number of phone calls. And, bonus, I ran into Tamjid! He just finished sophomore year at Harvard, and this summer is teaching kids math. He looked great.

Note

I am beyond excited about the possibility of having four or five elite orienteers living with us in the fall, teaching kids and forming the core of a great training group. Hope it happens.

I am anxious about the plans for the fall teams. The teacher backed out. This is hard. Arg! Need a partner in these matters. Someone socially fearless.

Note

Ethan and I met with the 7th grade VLUS teachers about Thursday's all-day orienteering. We also spoke with the principal about setting up O as a sport for next year, and with the 8th grade contact to arrange a meeting to plan for the 8th grade orienteering experience.

I heard back from one potential Spanish volunteer coach, and hope to hear from more over the next few days.

Are we making one step forward, two steps back, or the other way around?

Today I heard that Evalin won't be joining us for the summer, and the faculty person we thought we had identified for orienteering is backing out. Arg!

Note

Our new son, Vilppu, finished something like 103rd in the 5th leg at Jukola. Can't wait to meet him!

Note

I have an idea for a new orienteering format: teach-O. You get 20 minutes to teach someone who has never orienteered before. There is a model map available. Then you race your student against the others. The coach with the fastest student wins!
