Note

The 2018 summer program grant application is due on Thursday. This grant is important to be able to pay our lead supervisor.

Here is the draft of our application. I'd appreciate any feedback that you have, with a focus on how well we are answering the required questions. We got the grant the first year, but not the second. The feedback we got was that we needed to address diversity (I assume this refers to the fact that we had white and Asian kids but no African Americans recruited as teen participants), the location (I was running it mostly out of my house; in response we held our meetings at the library last year), make sure that the kids are able to articulate how the skills they are gaining in our program relate to school and career, and be more specific about how we will teach kids those skills.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

Hanging controls on the U of A campus in Tucson for a sprint.
I did a couple controls on the afternoon activity at Reid Park; it was a really cool activity.
I also set up the maze-O near a playground. Children wandered over like bees attracted to a garden, and we showed them how to do the courses. Calvin was particularly deliberate, doing all 7 courses in order, while I made sure he went to the right controls.
