Note

Celebrating today's meeting with the K-12 PE coordinator for Cambridge public schools. We have green light to propose development of curricula for PE, all grades. The format would be 4 45-minute classes each spring in each grade, for K-9. For grades 10-12 we'd develop a 20-lesson curriculum. We would provide professional development and help teachers get started teaching. We would do the development in collaboration with CPSD PE teachers, and pilot it in the spring, rolling it out system-wide in the spring of 2020.

Just, wow.

Note

Evalin, Adam, Dave and I met with Linda and Julia, two experienced teachers who are on our Board of Directors. We wanted to get help as we prepare for the ~12 15-week classes we'll be teaching to kids in grades JK through 5 this fall.

They had us really focus on the design of each lesson. The first lesson should be, as all teachers do, setting expectations for the rest of the semester. I think we will probably start with Erin's Boundary theme, and riff on that. We also touched on classroom management.

Here are the components of each lesson plan:

* Overarching objective
* Objective for the lesson
* Activator
* Sequence of events
* Summarizer

Also, we lay out criteria for success and behavior expectations.

We've been pretty loosey goosy about our planning for these classes - it's going to be amazing to have written up the detailed plan, and to go through the process of testing and refinement.

In other news, today I filled out a questionnaire for IOF hinting at working regionally (with other countries) on development, with an emphasis on youth.
