Note
I spent hours Monday trying to get a $5000 loan from US Chamber of Commerce. Their website was overloaded; I could never get in. Later I learned they had given away all the money within minutes. It's interesting the unintended (presumably) prioritization of who gets money and who doesn't. In this case - people who could get into the website? (Even though I started refreshing the moment it opened up.) People who had already created the right accounts had an advantage; they didn't tell us that ahead of time.
I read a great article today in NYTimes or WaPost about local banks who prepared ahead of time for the PPP and did well by their customers. Our local bank was not so ready, and did not get our PPP loan approved in time. They assure us we're set up for this next round. We'll see. There was an incentive for banks to prioritize large loans over loans to small businesses, because they get a fraction of each loan amount. Frustrating.
We'll bring Tanairi back next week to help with outreach for summer and fall programming, and applying to more grants.
I've spent the last few days finalizing the 2019 financials and dealing with various state and federal paperwork. Had a panic when MA sent a notice suggesting we'd have to pay half of unemployment, but that is wrong because we have been paying both federal and state unemployment insurance - which is optional for nonprofits, but glad we have been doing it. Still, I wish MA was more on top of it and not freaking me out.
I took a break to set up our website to accept members and to assign roles to those members - in preparation for member-only content. Checked in with Jen and Ethan yesterday, and we're planning a gaming meeting for Friday.
