Bicycling 35:00 [3]

To and from a local theater for a performance.

This weekend we are having a hackathon for Navigation Games. The first day was highly successful starting with fixing a bug in EasyGecNG and porting to Macs. And defining the simplified UI.

The team has some great young people who are really good.

Bicycling 3:00:00 [3]

First 2024 bike/ferry/bike to Cape. Getting the 2nd bike down there for use by friends visiting soon.

Feedback from a teacher in Medford about our program last week:

"Now that I have more time, I want to tell you how wonderful everything was about our experience of orienteering on Wednesday. The students truly enjoyed it. I was only at the afternoon session, but I heard that the morning session students loved it as well. I am not sure if there is a survey or a review that you would like to be filled out, but I will gladly do that if you have one. I will certainly be telling everyone I know how wonderful everything was. You were all amazing from start to finish."

This program was with all (4) 4th grade classes at one school. It was arranged by a teacher as not the PE department. We asked about the PE teacher but were told they were not likely to be interested.

Teaching 1:00:00 [3]

(I met with a potential stakeholder to pitch Navigation Games.)

Proposal:

Each town hold park programs for beginners and kids with Animal-O and matching map courses. Standard poster - just sub out the name of the funding source (eg town foundation) and the dates and locations.

Locally run.

Teaching 4:30:00 [3]

My AP log is more like a sampler than a comprehensive record of my activities...

With Meka & David (L), taught 4 classes of 4th graders in Medford. We made a map of Hickey Park, a typical functional park with softball field, baseball field, playground, basketball court, tennis court.

The weather was great and it went well. I like the progression that we use; it works well with a range of ages. I made a video so the students & staff would know what we were going to be doing. I know at least one class watched it because one student said she used the same map symbols as in the map in the video :-)

Teaching this many hours takes a lot of energy for me. Afterward I binge watched "Coffee Prince", a 2007 K-drama. I'm sad to read about the untimely death of two of the actors since then. One actor had been accused of drug use. There is so much drinking, and it's so normalized, in the shows - I hadn't realized how taboo drug use is, in contrast.

Then I had a nice dinner with friends on our garden deck.
