Strength 4:00 [3]

3x15.
11 AM

Running 17:55 intensity: (2:00 @1) + (13:00 @2) + (2:55 @3) 3.46 km (5:11 / km) +3m 5:09 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Short run along the Douwelerkolk. Achilles still doing fine. The cycling tunnel here is still closed, so had to climb over the fence. Worth it though, direct access to a nice park :) Weather almost feels like spring.

Wore X-talons because I expected muddy trails, but wasn't really needed in the end.

3 PM

Running 33:13 [1] 5.07 km (6:33 / km) +15m 6:28 / km
shoes: Inov-8 F-Lite 240

First run in Deventer again. Together with Louis through the fields next to the river. Very enjoyable :) Seems the 2 week running break was very beneficial for my achilles. Have to watch to not get too greedy right now and do too much.

11 AM

Strength 4:00 [3]

3x15. No morning stiffness!
5 PM

Cycling 36:53 intensity: (8:00 @1) + (22:00 @2) + (6:53 @3) 16.9 km (27.5 kph) +30m
shoes: Gazelle Giro

Partly cloudy 11℃ (Feels like 11℃).

First tour of the year I guess! Couldn't resist the spring-like weather. Chasing the sunset through the forests of De Eese, wondering if I shouldn't do some nice orienteering in Scandinavian forests again this summer...

Orienteering 1:03:40 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (16:00 @2) + (16:40 @3) + (16:00 @4) + (5:00 @5) *** 9.44 km (6:45 / km) +23m 6:40 / km
31c shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Clear 7℃ (Feels like 3℃).

Club training on Oude Willem. In general exercises were a bit too easy, but enjoyed myself and made it more difficult by pushing harder. Also forgot my compass which increased the difficulty. Achilles near perfect. Toe a bit sensitive but still under control.

Exercises:
Line-O;
Normal O course with focus on map contact and route choice;
Relay course in groups of 3, two loops.

Strength 4:00 [3]

4 PM

Running 23:03 intensity: (1:03 @1) + (13:00 @2) + (9:00 @3) 4.62 km (4:59 / km) +10m 4:56 / km
shoes: Inov-8 F-Lite 240

Partly cloudy 9℃ (Feels like 6℃).

With Natalia on the bike. Bit too fast maybe, but felt good. Right toe slightly sensitive, seems to be under control though. Hope I can keep up this schedule. Achilles is doing just fine; it's a bit sensitive when I squeeze/touch it, but I have a feeling that's more because of the shockwave treatment.

5 PM

Strength 4:00 [3]

3x15. After the run.

Friday Feb 21, 2014 #

10 AM

Strength 4:00 [3]

Strength 4:00 [3]

ankle 4x30" L&R.
2 PM

Hiking 1:33:51 [1] ** 8.65 km (10:51 / km) +24m 10:42 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 315

Partly cloudy 8℃ (Feels like 4℃).

With Natalia. Hadn't been here for some time already, so good excuse with the nice weather. Used the old '93 orienteering map, trails and contours are still pretty much perfect, vegetation not so much! Bit boring route back to the car because we were short on time.

Thursday Feb 20, 2014 #

10 AM

Strength 5:00 [3]

3x20.
12 PM

Note

5th shockwave. Things seem to be getting better, but of course that's mostly due to my break from running the past weeks.
5 PM

Running 16:09 intensity: (1:00 @1) + (13:00 @2) + (2:09 @4) 3.03 km (5:20 / km) +1m 5:19 / km
shoes: Inov-8 F-Lite 240

Overcast/Drizzle 9℃ (Feels like 6℃).

Short run. Achilles ok, hip feeling a bit stiff but just a coincidence I think. Two quick accelerations to get rid of some energy :)

Really felt in today's and yesterday's run that I still have to get used to the shoes, they really make me work.

Wednesday Feb 19, 2014 #

shoes: Inov-8 F-Lite 240

Partly cloudy 8℃ (Feels like 6℃).

2x10' with a 45" break in the middle.

Physically bad, but achilles ok. Thought I felt a small niggle around 8min, but fine afterwards. Dressed up a bit too cold in only a shirt.

Saturday Feb 1, 2014 #

10 AM

Strength 2:00 [3]

2x15. Calf (upper part) surprisingly stiff from yesterday.
1 PM

Running warm up/down 11:17 intensity: (3:00 @1) + (6:17 @2) + (1:00 @3) + (1:00 @4) 1.78 km (6:20 / km) +6m 6:14 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Calf feeling not so optimal, but got better at the end of the warm up.

Orienteering 45:54 intensity: (2:54 @3) + (28:00 @4) + (15:00 @5) **** 8.81 km (5:13 / km) +41m 5:06 / km
25c shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Midwinter competitie, Kootwijkerzand. Distance 8,05km (5'42"/km).

Splits (seemed a bit off compared to my GPS track).
Map+route.

Started fast and faded slowly after around control 9-10 because of the lack of training. Technically good, although I was much more sharp in the beginning and really had to force myself to navigate at the end, when the tiredness kicked in. No real mistakes, but hesitated a few times and had some suboptimal routechoices. Very enjoyable terrain and race, but would've liked to see some more of the course in the forest bits.

3) Couldn't really make out where I was on the trail and when I had to leave it, so took a bit of risk. Turned out fine.
6) Got confused because there were multiple small depressions before the control. Stopped for 5" and then realised I still had to continue a little bit.
7) Maybe could've stayed a bit closer to the line, might've saved some seconds. Did feel very in control on this leg.
9) Sudden headwind due to the direction change, started feeling tired. A bit too far east when entering the forest, wanted to stay on the line in between the two hills. +5"?
10) Messed up the routechoice, wanted to go straight but got pushed north in the thicket and then decided to run around the hill. Best route would've been to follow the line until the path, then go more north and run along the south side of the big hill that's half in the open area. That way the dense vegetation would've been avoided and distance spared too. +15".
13) West around the bushes would've given an easier entry/attackpoint into the control.
15) Sloppy route, didn't have a good plan. Even went straight over the hill in the final part of the leg... Should've gone a bit more east in the beginning, then through the passage in between the two large hills. +10".
16) Hesitating, hard to read the map. +5".
17) First decided to go straight, then to go back to the trail and in the end to go straight anyway because runability seemed ok. Twisted my right ankle a little near the path crossing, but could continue running. +10".
18) Wanted to go straight but got distracted because I caught up with Sadie who went around the hill, and then I realised that wasn't such a bad idea! Should've stuck closer to the line though, instead of going all the way out to the path. +12".
20+21) Straight was better, small detours didn't give any advantage.
23) Tired and hard to focus, but managed to stay on course and avoid mistakes.
25) First plan was to run south around the forest, but then realised the forest was pretty runable so I continued straight. Only thing was that I didn't know where I was at any point (didn't even see the small trail west of 24). Just kept following compass in roughly the good direction, slowing down sometimes out of insecurity. Also confused by the map in the final part, close to the two trees. Couldn't make much out of it. +25".

Running warm up/down 3:38 [1] 0.55 km (6:39 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Calf tight.
