Viewpoint.

'Recovery' run. Bit cloudy today, no views.

Both achilles feel a bit tired, and body in general felt a bit sluggish, still looking for the good running feeling. Right calf tightening up a bit again on the climb.

Monte di Crea.

Nice touristy run, taking it easy because I knew it would be long, and stopping in a few places as well. Out for 2hrs. Enjoyed finding some new trails and had still planned a run to Crea so good to tick it off.

Body feeling sluggish in the beginning, never completely settling into a nice rhythm. Right calf got a bit tight on the first climb, but I managed to stretch it out. Surprisingly slow, but then again secretly a lot of climb added up and some of it quite steep.

Viewpoint. Group walk with everyone.

Checked out a nearby farm for sale, then bushwhacked straight up the hill to the ridge to enjoy the sunset. Found a different trail going back, involves a bit of trespassing though. Nice walk, fun.

Was planning to go for a longer run, but left a little too late. It has gotten quite chilly here lately, and since the house is cold as well the pace of things has slowed down a bit too ;)

Body felt sluggish, but happy to get out. Nice sunset.

Viewpoint Hill. With F, M & G.

Same route as on the 20th but the other way around. Sunny but also a bit chilly. Petted some puppies on the way at a house where they have eight of them :)

Nice walk, good conversations. Was debating going for a run first, but wanted to give my body a little bit more rest and also felt more like a group walk.

Trail running 40:00 [3] 6.5 km (6:09 / km) +250m 5:10 / km

Viewpoint Hill.

Another sunset run. The most clear day so far. Temperatures during the night have dropped to around -3C, and so the fog seems to relent a bit. Beautiful sunset. Also have permission from the landowner to use the direct trail up Viewpoint Hill.

Right knee a little sensitive, both achilles a little tired as well. Body not as responsive today neither. I thought running every other day would be ok, but maybe it's better to take it a little easier.

Viewpoint Hill. With L, M & F.

Enjoying the sunset from the viewpoint. To avoid the bramble path we took a different trail down, much more walkable but ending on a private property. Kinda in doubt whether to use this route or not.

Chilly evening once the sun left!

Ponzano.

Back on the west side of the main road. I was curious about potential unmapped trails on the little forested ridge just north of here, and found a trail on satellite images.

Lovely evening, taking in the last light as the sun disappeared behind Monviso (100km straight line away...). Trail was nicely runnable until the vineyards stopped, then it became overgrown and finally ended with a mess of brambles to fight through. Not sure if I'd like to do the whole thing again but the first part is worth it.

Starting to appreciate the area more, still not my favourite but there's something about the many little ridges and valleys and the small vineyards scattered around on them.

Body fine. Right knee still (!) a tiny bit sensitive/inflamed, going to try some icing. Seems like the bike ride to Leipzig really aggravated it and though I'm not biking at all at the moment it doesn't really go away. Not ideal with a possible week long bike ride coming up.

San Vincenzo.

Sun was out again for the first time in a few days. Fog is very persistent here.

Nice longer run exploring a bit more of the ridge. I definitely like this area the most so far.

Body felt a bit sluggish, so kept the pace relatively low, especially on the steeper downhills to reduce the impact on my joints. Don't want to overdo the training but instead build up slowly.

San Vincenzo. Group walk.

Pretty much the same route as the run a few days ago.

Foggy with the occasional bits of the sun almost coming through the clouds. Lots of stopping to check plants, trees, mushrooms, abandoned houses. Saw three wild boar crossing the path in front of us. Lovely picknick break on the meadow. Nice.

San Vincenzo.

Evening run. Wanted to go out earlier but big lunch prevented that.

Finally found some nice small trails (between 2,5 and 4k), contouring the hill side. Small break on the meadow at 4k, enjoying the view of the lights on the hills in the distance.

This area seems to be more quiet and foresty than where I went on previous runs.

Legs and body a bit tired but lovely to go out for a run.

Gardini.

Evening run, started just after sunset. G. pointed out Monviso yesterday on the walk, today it was visible as well even though the evening was a bit foggy.

Easier than last run, pushing the pace a bit more uphill and running fairly relaxedly on the downhills. Lots of unmapped paths and roads go through the vineyards, spent some time finding passages connecting to other trails but failed this time.

Cycling 9:30:00 [3] 142.1 km (15.0 kph) +1500m

Thusis - Luino.

Epic day. Started at 8.30. Forecast was quite a lot of rain, but fortunately apart from the occasional shower and drizzle it was dry.

Body definitely not used to exertion anymore after sickness and quarantine, took a while to get used to the climbing. From about 1900m there was snow on the road up to the San Bernardino, pushed the bike and trailer for the last 2km. Luckily no snow after the highest point at 2066m, which is also the highest I've been with the bike all year :)

Steady downhill to Bellinzona where darkness fell. Was planning to sleep near Magadino but then news reached me of a lockdown starting in Piemonte from 5am the next day, so biked across the border and unfortunately failed to catch the last train in Luino. Later the lockdown was postponed till a day later so no problem.

Oh, how nice to be outside again in the yellow autumn woods. Calfs a bit stiff from lack of excercise, but otherwise doing fine.
