Splits

Was looking forward to this race, and told myself to just enjoy it. A new map for me, hadn't been here before. In general a really good race technically; I lost some time here and there, but never more than around 30". Limiting factor today was my fitness, whenever I hit the trail I just couldn't speed up, and already after around 12 controls I kind of reached my max. Might've saved me from some mistakes today too though.

Mistakes:

2) Misread the map a little bit just after the fence, but noticed very quickly. +3".
3) Drifted a little bit too far west, but then spotted the control. Should've been a bit more precise in the last part. +4".
4) Bit insecure about where to go off the trail, so did that on the last possible point. +10".
8) Hard to read the contours in the circle, ran up the hill to expect the control on the other side, but was a few meters off. +5".
9) Could've exited from 8 a bit more to the north west, through the white forest onto the trail. +8".
10) Bit insecure in the circle, also because of two other runners walking here. Should've read the contours more precise. +10".
11) First real mistake. Thought I had a good attackpoint (the three trees), but couldn't make out the contours, also because I didn't take the time to understand them. Wandered around in the circle and then spotted it. I already felt I was drifting a bit too much west, but didn't want to admit it. +40".
17) Bit insecure where I got the road after taking a rough compass bearing from 16. +3".
18) Straight might've been faster here, not sure.
19) Focused too much on keeping the right direction and didn't look ahead to spot the big hill that was already visable. When I finally did I saw I drifted a bit. +5".
20) Almost caught up with Niels-Peter and Wouter-Dirk here, and that distracted me a bit. Tried to follow them into the control, but wasn't paying close enough attention and missed the control a bit. +15".
22) Still had Niels-Peter in sight, and was not paying attention to my bearing that much. Tried to correct along the way, but still wasn't sure where I'd hit the ridge. Had troubles relocating, then finally spotted the control, frustrating. +50".
24) Wrong route choice, straight would've been better. +15".

Pretty satisfied feeling in the end, mistakes were small, although the big ones I made were frustrating and easy to prevent. Nice to have a good flow in my orienteering and always be ahead with the planning, just like I wanted.

Long cooling down with Wouter and Niels-Peter, running to one of the geocaches around :) Nice chatting.

Running warm up/down 8:17 [1] * 1.28 km (6:27 / km) +5m 6:20 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

O-intervals with dad, easy warm-up.

Orienteering 36:30 intensity: (2:30 @2) + (15:00 @3) + (13:00 @4) + (6:00 @5) ***** 5.57 km (6:33 / km) +2m 6:33 / km
17c shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

Running from S-17 on the ME course, in four intervals. Length 4,3km. Focused on planning ahead, executing my plan correctly and compass work.

Not 100% satisfied but in general happy with how I was able to read the intricate contours and the speed and execution I had on some legs. A bit sloppy with the compass in the last interval, and didn't always have a good plan. Must say it was very hard in the last few meters of every leg without a control to confirm your location... Running felt strong, happy with that!

Splits on competition day.

Running warm up/down 9:00 [2] ** 1.59 km (5:39 / km) +3m 5:36 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

Little bit faster cooling down to be able to catch the bus.
