In general a pretty good race, but I felt a bit insecure at times. Didn't fully push physically to avoid biiger mistakes. Dropped some time here and there but never more than 10sec. Better races technically would come only if I'd spend more time racing or training with a map. Had fun, even though the course was (too) easy at times.
1) Start wasn't hidden, so I was able to see the right direction to take off.
2) Never spotted the little alley through the middle so took a 25m detour. +5".
5) Doubting between the two routes, but north around seemed to be longer or at least more tricky. Measured afterwards south was 40m shorter and easier, so a good route choice.
6-10) Easy legs, plenty of time to read ahead.
12) First plan was east around since the west route was partially obstructed by road works (according to the briefing beforehand). Then mid-leg I spotted the stairs just southwest of 12 which seemed to be passable. Changed my plan but when I arrived the wall didn't look so passable. Got confused and went around anyway. Sloppy. Next time should just stick with my choice. +10".
14) Didn't see the passage through the parking garage until I'd just passed the crossing. +3".
15) Had looked at this leg on the way to 10, and seen that north for sure would be better. The exact choice would be easy to figure out on the way I knew. That was true, but still at the end for no reason I took one alley too early and ended up having to go around. Noticed it when I expected to see a square and didn't see anything. 40m extra running, plus some hesitating. +12".
17) Most annoyed with this mistake. I had prepared the route choice (east), then exited the control wrong by running to the first gate I saw. Noticed it when I was at the gate, stood still for 2" and decided to commit to the west route choice. Should've had in my head that I needed to follow the bushes to the east to just end up at the gate. Again 40m extra distance. +12".
So not a perfect race, but cannot expect that with the little relevant (at race pace) orienteering training I do. Just annoyed with dropping ~20" in the last 3 controls... Nice to see the Belgian runners also running, more competition in Netherlands is always nice even though they were not in the champs.
