Cloudy 14℃.

To the forest with mom and dad, then ran at easy pace on my own. Achilles a bit tired in the beginning, and body had to get going a bit. Took map with me. Longer break at the lookout tower, enjoying the view.

Splits

Ran at a relatively comfortable pace, never pushed. In control of the orienteering, though it was a little too easy which meant my routines were a bit sloppy and not in a certain order. Happy with compass work though. Unfortunately punched the wrong control at 17, where another control was placed around 20-30m before mine, coming from the west. Only control where I didn't check the code because I was planning ahead for the 2nd part, after the map exchange. Not too bothered, had a good training and not worth getting annoyed over course planning like this.

So, plan today was focusing on precise compass bearings and picking good attackpoints and catching features.

S-3) Good, relaxed start.

4) Little hesitant in the circle.

5-7) Good. Punched just behind dad at 6.

8) Doubting to go around, then figured straight would be more fun and probably faster if executed well.

9) Stood still for a few seconds to confirm that my initial choice was fastest. Deviated a bit too far north, but just picked a fast, open route through the forest to the open area going west-east. +5"?

10-12) Good routes and execution. Going more straight leaving 10 might've been a bit faster, but I preferred bailing out to the road sooner.

13) Wanted to cut in a bit early the last part, but brambles forced me to run around. +8".

14) Bit sloppy, planned earlier to go straight, but didn't plan route exactly. Was planning it on the go, not ideal.

15) Fast and secure.

16) Out to the road halfway because the forest wasn't as runnable as I hoped/expected. Bit hesitant in the circle. +5".

17) Around on purpose to already check the route to 18. While running on the south-north trail I spotted a control to my right, ran to it and punched it without thinking twice. Situation wasn't that clear, the open areas weren't visible at all. Still, checking numbers is a good idea ;)

18) Biggest mistake. Couldn't understand the contours east of the trail, were very indistinct. Suddenly noticed the fence corner and then knew I ran too far. +25".

19-23) Good routes, good execution.

24) Around on purpose. Good choice.

25) Undergrowth was slow coming out of 24, still a good route choice I think.

26-28) Good.

29) Spotted another control halfway and even though I knew it couldn't be mine I still ran to it. Also around on the trail would've been faster here. +10".

30-F) Easy.

And back. Bit tired and headwind so taking it easy. Enjoying the rain and sun rays peeking through the clouds. Found huge mushrooms at the side of the road, yum.

Results

Plan was to run exactly 18'00", as comfortable as possible. Achilles wasn't feeling that great past days and the effort on sunday made me not fully rested for today.

Started quite conservative, watching myself to not follow the leaders even though the pace felt easy. After 2k I still felt so good that I accelerated a bit and started overtaking some runners. After 2,5k there was an unpaved part where I got closer to number 3, and by then I thought I should just try and catch him.

Caught up and relaxed a bit, before trying to run away. Just before the finish I thought it was settled, but got beaten in the sprint anyway.

Really enjoyable run, sun came out just after we started and I was having a really good time out there. No problems with achilles neither. Course seemed a bit short, but could be GPS as well.

Very happy with the time though; course wasn't fast, I didn't feel that strong and road was slippery because of the rain.

Very easy cool down right after the race. Calves tightened up a little. Felt great at the end of the cool down, like I could do another race :)
